Buttigieg said this happened shortly after his family shared Father's Day photos on social media. He noted it occurred during Pride month. He was careful not to assign it to a specific source. He was not careful about naming what it was: a deliberate use of child protection systems as a political weapon, timed to cause maximum harm to a family, designed to drag four-year-old children into a process they could not understand as a way of getting to their father.

CPS workers and forensic interviewers doing their jobs are the mechanism that was abused here. They did their jobs correctly. The abuse was upstream of them - someone filed a false report, knowing exactly what procedure would follow, knowing exactly what it would do to a family, knowing exactly what it would do to two small children. That person committed a crime. Buttigieg is right that it cannot be allowed to normalize. It is not part of the cost of public service. It is an attack on children.
