The body of Irish tourist and climber Alexander Harris, who had been missing for 96 hours after descending from Musa Ka Musalla, has been recovered near a water crossing behind Dhor in Mansehra District.

A rescue team informed PPC Digital that Alexander’s body was found in the area after an extensive search operation.

The search-and-rescue operation had been launched by the Margalla Trail Runners (MTR) after Alexander went missing while returning from Musa Ka Musalla, a 13,500-foot-high peak in Mansehra’s scenic Siran Valley.

According to police, Alexander had climbed the peak on Friday along with another foreign tourist. Police said the two had travelled to the area without obtaining the required No Objection Certificate (NOC).

The two friends reportedly decided to descend separately on their return journey on August 29.

According to the joint statement issued after the first formal defence committee meeting of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, a secretariat will be established in Saudi Arabia to support cooperation under the agreement. It will initially be headed by a Pakistani Secretary General for a three-year term.

Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed Monday to take steps to further institutionalize their cooperation under the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defence, according to a joint statement issued after the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee in Istanbul.

The three countries said they would continue supporting de-escalation and restraint to encourage peaceful resolutions to regional crises.

They also agreed to deepen cooperation in a way that strengthens solidarity, enhances the credibility and effectiveness of their collective deterrence and defence, and contributes to regional security and a “just, inclusive and lasting peace.”

The countries further agreed to strengthen their defence capabilities and the cohesion of their armed forces through joint activities, defence-industry cooperation, and joint technology development and production.

Hague Arbitration Court Orders India to Comply with Indus Waters Treaty

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), based in The Hague, has ordered India to limit work on hydroelectric projects in Kashmir and comply with the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

In a significant ruling on Monday, the arbitration court said the Indus Waters Treaty, signed between Pakistan and India for the sharing of water resources, remains fully in force, as India had no legal grounds to terminate or suspend the agreement.
despite India’s unilateral suspension of the treaty in April 2025, as India had no legal justification to terminate or suspend the treaty.

The court further stated that India must ensure that ongoing hydroelectric projects in the Himalayan region comply with the terms and conditions of the treaty.
The court further said that a neutral expert appointed by the World Bank will decide by July 2027 whether the construction of these hydropower projects in the Himalayan region is in accordance with the treaty or not.

Body of Dr. Asma Mushtaq Located on Spantik Mountain

The body of Dr. Asma Mushtaq has been located on Spantik Mountain and recovered by a rescue team from Arandu, led by Mehboob Ali Arandu.

The rescuers are expected to bring the body down from the mountain today, weather permitting. Otherwise, the body is expected to reach Skardu tomorrow.

The inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (Makkah Accord) will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye on 31 August 2026.

Pakistan will be represented at the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and the Chief of Army Staff & Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The meeting will also be attended by the respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Ministers of Defence, as well as Chiefs of General Staff of the Republic of Turkiÿe, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan’s participation in the meeting signifies Pakistan’s historic bonds of friendship with the brotherly countries of Turkiÿe and Saudi Arabia, as well as its desire for lasting regional peace and stability.

Update on Dr Asma Mushtaq:

Family sources told PPC Digital that the rescue team has returned to basecamp after its first attempt to recover Dr Asma Mushtaq’s body, but failed to locate it as it remains buried under the snow. The team will make a second attempt and intends to head up again tomorrow.

Dr Asma Mushtaq lost her life on 19 August while descending at 6,400 metres after summiting Spantik Peak.

Pakistan is ready for state-level talks with Afghanistan, the Foreign Office spokesperson said, while strongly rejecting Kabul’s allegations that Islamabad is interfering in Afghanistan.
Pakistan called on the Afghan interim government to ensure its territory is not used for terrorism against Pakistan and to fulfill its international obligations, including those under the Doha Framework.

The spokesperson said Pakistan is willing to maintain institutional engagement with Afghanistan, provided it leads to verifiable counterterrorism measures. Islamabad also wants effective border management and concrete action to prevent groups including the TTP and BLA from using Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan.
