A Twist to your Moral Compass #RoyalBlood
sorry for the essay.
As I gather my thoughts together and say farewell (for now) to probably one of the most impactful mystery dramas I have seen—- this is my final review for Royal Blood.
Royal Blood is not for the faint of heart. It tackles the most flawed. It questions your moral compass. Everyone—- even the protagonist is in the gray area.
Filipino dramas tend to skew on the upright. We tend to uplift and everything tends to be justified. Even in revenge dramas, Filipino shows tend to show a clear good vs evil. Here, the lines are blurred. Here, we play no excuses. We delve into the deep abyss.
In Royal Blood, it is dark. It is vindictive. Honest. Hits right to the core of your heart. Could even have you in stitches with its comedy. Intelligent. A gold standard of a ride.
Napoy, our self-righteous hero wakes up one day to learn he is the bastard son of a billionaire tycoon, Gustavo Royales. He then joins a dysfunctional family with vile siblings who are all murder suspects. He is thrown into a murder mystery of his dead father.
Only to realize as he investigates—- that the Royales Estate is the house of horrors. Each piece of the puzzle more horrifying than the next. Leaving him the question if his siblings are victims or culprits? Or both?
Every episode has you absolutely gripped to see what’s coming next in an epic tale of murder, love, betrayal, and messed up family dynamics.
Each character unique, well-developed, and intriguing. Touching on issues in society such as class and generational trauma.
It is so well-acted, the direction so fast-paced, a story weaved into a web of mysteries, and a twisty turn to our own moral compasses.
Though even though, it delves into the dark abyss it still has speckles of light. Just like humanity.
It is scary, funny, a hell of a ride, heart-wrenching, and also a gut-punch all in one.
Though that finale seems a bit rushed and I feel had an opener for a Season 2, this is probably one of the strongest PH shows I have seen of all time. Listed as one of my favorites.
And to RJ Nuevas, my God, you are a genius.
Thank you, Royalistas.

I drop my sword and cry for just a while.
'Cause deep inside this armor,The warrior is a child.”
