Doing your best, doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone.
It is all in how you explain it to each person what the expectations and end result are and then ask for feedback to understand what it is to them. Yep, training takes time and effort and is ongoing.

Any time I am out and encounter others, I give them a big smile and say hello, we need to be friendly, and kind and I have found that when I do this people respond positively and that is a great thing!
