Here are 60 direct quotes from 40 different Nazi officials about what they were doing to Jewish people, sourced to the original documents and recordings. All of it is from 1938-1944, so none of it is from post-war confessions.

Page 1 opens with Hitler, Goebbels, and Himmler, but it also includes people like Oberleutnant Walther, a field officer who wrote in a report that shooting Jews was faster than shooting Gypsies, "100 men in 40 minutes," and noted they were calm when they died.

The Goebbels entry is from his private diary.

Later pages have Himmler ordering troops to "drive Jewish women into the swamps," Romania's head of state saying "I say there is no law, I take full legal responsibility," and a Wehrmacht field marshal whose kill order Hitler praised and sent to every Eastern Front commander as a model.

Either way, it’s a total pussy move to try and claim it didn’t happen because your feelings are hurt about its exceptionalism. They could just make the argument you’re making instead.

There are parts of the Holocaust that have been blown out of proportion (understandably IMO, because they're so viscerally bizarre and straight out of a horror film), but were also true. One of those is shrunken heads.

As far as I know these were only done at Buchenwald, where it became such an issue that the higher-ups eventually had to order it stop because it was such a bad look. two real ones were found and photographed when the Americans entered the camp in April 1945. they were basically mementos that SS officers kept on their desks or sent home to family.

In May 1942 the SS doctor in charge of the camp, Waldemar Hoven, wrote an order to the head of the pathology block telling them to stop making "so-called gift articles (shrunken heads etc.)" with immediate effect. For what it's worth, this order is on official SS letterhead and uses the German word for shrunken heads directly. It also tells pathology to keep writing twice-monthly reports on the orders that were still waiting to be filled, including the ones going to the SS medical academy in Graz.

Mostly it's that you don't get why a take has to be falsifiable. For you everything that isn't Jewish is somehow still Jewish, which means nothing could ever prove you wrong. And if you can't be proven wrong, your take is worthless.

Bonus: you don't get denominators or availability bias and you keep mixing up causation and correlation. You notice Jewish people in finance or media and think it's a conspiracy instead of it being a semi-representative subset of urban educated people, clustered in a few cities.

They are haunted by it, that's the thing. Someone who didn’t care would look at the data, look at what the Nazis said and admitted to (both contemporaneously and post-war), and say, “hell yeah.” They wouldn't be dedicating themselves to denying Hitler's most lasting accomplishment.
