A few words on BitMach, Eskom, and why Bitcoin mining matters for South Africa.

Note: This isn’t about “crypto”. It’s about infrastructure! This is Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work protocol; Where math, physics and energy immutably stores your time and energy…attributes of Bitcoin I love most!

South Africa’s electricity story has quietly entered a new chapter, one that many people don’t yet understand, and understandably so.

For the first time in decades, South Africa is not short of generation. We are short of flexibility, transmission capacity, and demand management. Eskom is transitioning from energy generation being the focus, to energy orchestration. What does this mean?

We now have:

• Massive private investment in renewables
• Solar and wind capacity growing faster than the grid
• Surplus energy at certain times of day
• Congestion at others

What we don’t have is load demand that can respond INSTANTLY…in a modular, decentralized and systematic manner. That’s the gap Bitcoin mining fills.

Eskom has made enormous progress over the past year. Stability has improved. Operations have improved. Confidence is slowly returning.
