Director of The Gifted: “Wave” is the first character of the Gifted universe and perhaps the character we love the most. We spent the most time developing the character of Wave because Wave is the audience’s first impression of the entire Gifted universe

Wave represents the word “perfect” in the traditional Thai sense. Wave has to be the very best and the ability most highly praised in Thailand is being good at math. Wave has to be extremely good at math. No one can defeat this character in mathematics or planning. Another thing that is important to us is that Wave must be good-looking, because that is another trait admired in Thai society. Perfection in both appearance and intellect must exist in this character

Up Poompat was the first actor who brought Wave to life. We were very proud and happy to have him play Wave. Up gave his all to make this story as perfect as possible. He’s a very sweet kid and helped us a lot and we’re very grateful to him

Chimon is the second actor who brought Wave to life, and he is the current Wave. For Chimon, Wave is completely unlike him. Chimon is a bright, carefree kid who doesn’t think too much, while Wave must think several steps ahead. Chimon doesn’t like studying math, but math is Wave’s life. Chimon likes joking and having fun with friends while Wave likes looking down on others

Of course, the first time Chimon tried playing this role, there was no “Wave” in him at all. The amount of Wave in Chimon = 0. Dom and I, who directed the Wave episodes, were very worried about how Chimon’s Wave would turn out. Could we really do this?

Then one day—on a day when it was raining and thundering lightly (just setting the mood)—we had a workshop where only Chimon and Sing were present. That day Chimon seemed very different. He was quiet, calm and cool

Our acting coach asked him, “Chimon, what animal do you think Wave is?” Chimon looked still for a moment before answering, “a black panther”. “Alright, then try being a black panther,” the coach said

Who would have known that day would be the day Chimon played Wave the best? Chimon became a black panther watching its prey silently. Speaking little, but sharp and precise. That was Wave. From that moment on, Chimon truly became Wave

From that day until the actual filming, that black panther stayed with us. Wave stayed with us on set, from the first slate of filming until the final “cut”

We heard that Chimon was very stressed playing this role, but that stress came from his own determination to do the best he could

Thank you so much, Chimon, for letting us see Wave come to life again after two years. You’re a very good kid. Thank you very much
