@jimmybot@EleanaLittle A hybrid model should also be considered - some seats appointed, others elected.
Benefit of considering this model is we can get a non-binding referendum on the next ballot for voters asking State legislature to consider it (free market research on opinions of current model)
@SolomonforJC I recently had a SCF ticket closed that was open for 20 months but in fact was never completed. “High-quality” tickets in particular should be validated before being closed (pictures, precise locations, a comment trail): https://t.co/j7dF5VZhql
@georgedavid Also consider the number of internal tools used by the city that can be built and managed for a fraction of the price. Even if we’re under a contract, build them in-house in parallel and then don’t renew.
@elonmusk How about the concept of Social Impact Bonds? Usually intended for complex problems the government takes on, can they be used to run the DMV?
@upzonenj I understand the need to display this stuff at the census block level but can’t we mask the huge swaths of parkland/industrial that makes these areas look bigger than they are? Has anyone tried making a tile or hex cartogram of Jersey City?
@georgedavid This is awesome! We have a use-case for an app like this.
Check out what we’re calling Project Safe Turn:

@3_under_scores_ We think marrying LPIs to NTOR intersections is the near term way forward on restricting left turns. While we wait for the next phase of NTORs, we’re trying to ID where the city fell short so we can push for these changes: https://t.co/tqsMZjvvNL
@upzonenj I asked O’Dea about a year ago regarding mayoral control of the BOE and he was definitely against it. Fulop at least briefly entertained a referendum.
@StevenFulop Appreciate the city’s Vision Zero efforts and the work on Monticello. But Summit Ave needs urgent attention-just weeks ago, a mother and daughter were hit and hospitalized. The Junction is also a major hazard. Let’s prioritize these next. More on our work: https://t.co/0wGYYq79lW
@JerseyCityTimes Communications equipment is a great project to fund with the UASI federal/state grant program. Has the city applied for this grant to pay for this equipment? Or did we push the easy button again and put it towards a capital budget? Worth asking - please investigate.
@upzonenj I sent a complaint to Apple and suggested they take the app down until it’s fixed. The developers website and email also aren’t functioning. Parking should get rid of it and get their operations section going instead of solely supporting the street sweeper.
Crossing a Jersey City crosswalk, my family was nearly hit by a motorbike swerving around a stopped bus. This disregard for safety is too common. Urge Mayor Fulop & City Council to step up traffic enforcement. #VisionZero#SafeStreets https://t.co/ZZjEzNUxF1
@EducationalGil1 I have two questions: 1. from your seat, are there any pros or cons missing from Mayor Fulops list? 2. Has anyone quantified the value of the PILOT + net economic activity vs. 30 years worth of taxes?
I know there are many variables, but we need an estimate at least
@josh_weissman@StevenFulop Yes, that’s a great idea. Coming up Bergen from Bergen-Lafayette you have to bike past JSQ (jockeying with the taxis at the stand) to dock your citibike at Van Repien, then walk back a block and a half to JSQ. That’d be the perfect spot for a true JSQ citibike station.
@ndhapple Also, @GovKathyHochul this seems like the perfect opportunity to leverage your power as an Appointing Authority of both the Port Authority and the MTA boards. Can you please look at this? There must be a solution/explanation.
@ndhapple And spent $100 MM to do it, instead of piggybacking on the MTA’s contract. The potential waste begs the question, and the Port Authority Inspector General needs to publish a report with their analysis of this program and contract.
