Some books inspire you. Some books challenge you. Priority Living by Bill Goodwin does both—and gives you a path forward.
Read it once for inspiration. Study it again for transformation.
Priority Living by Bill Goodwin
I came home from the John Maxwell Leadership Conference with so many great books to read. While sitting in the airport, I felt led to read Bill Goodwin’s book, Priority Living: Seven Pillars to Make Your Life Count. The title alone spoke to me.
To my surprise, once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down. Before I knew it, I was landing in Portland, Oregon, after leaving Dallas, Texas. More than five hours had passed just like that, and I had finished the entire book.
Even though I read it all the way through, I am far from done studying it. This is the kind of book that provides implementation, not just information.
If you are in leadership, a Purpose Factor Coach, or someone who feels stuck and is struggling with questions like: What fulfills you? What is frustrating you? What do you have to offer? Or if you simply need clarity, I truly believe this book will help set you on the path toward peace and joy in your life.
Bill goes beyond what he wrote in this book. He is a leader who truly understands what it means to serve others and add value to each of us individually. I can say that from personal experience. He has already served me by taking what I have been learning about purpose and speaking life into me.
We’re having such an incredible time in Dallas, Texas at IMC, the International Maxwell Conference.
Unfortunately, only one day remains, and I know it will be full of more amazing speakers and powerful principles for personal and professional growth. I am leaving this conference inspired, energized, and excited to share what I have learned with all of you. The lessons gained here are too valuable to keep to myself, and I look forward to using them to encourage, strengthen, and help others grow in meaningful ways.
If you have never heard of this inspiring event, IMC is a Maxwell Leadership conference centered on leadership development, personal growth, training, and meaningful networking, all grounded in the teachings of John C. Maxwell and the broader Maxwell Leadership community.
It is a place where people come to:
· learn powerful leadership and growth principles
· hear from John Maxwell and other outstanding speakers
· connect with coaches, entrepreneurs, speakers, and leaders from around the world
· gain training, encouragement, and inspiration for both personal and professional growth
What I value most is that this kind of leadership development is not just about feeling motivated — it is about taking what I have learned over the years through my involvement with the Maxwell organization and using it to create real improvement. That is exactly how I serve dental practices. I am available to help dental offices improve performance, strengthen systems, develop stronger teams, increase accountability, and build healthier, more profitable practices.
I feel truly blessed to be part of this organization and this amazing community. Looking forward to inspiring your office.
I’ll be back tomorrow from The Lone Star State to share my final reflections from IMC along with some of my biggest takeaways.
Your practice may be busy — but what is it costing you not to know what is holding it back?
Flat new patient numbers, lower case acceptance, and daily operational challenges are all signs your practice may be underperforming in ways that are costing you growth, efficiency, and profitability. The longer these issues go unaddressed, the more expensive they can become. Practice Management Systems helps dental practices identify missed opportunities and uncover what needs to change.

I came across this post on Facebook, and I really do not believe this is an isolated situation.
Original post:
Hi everyone,
We have a brand-new front office team member with no dental background who has been with us for about a month. She’s very eager to learn and communicates comfortably with patients.
So far, I’ve been giving her codes to study each day, and she has already mastered the hygiene recall codes. I’d love to find a good class or training program to help her build stronger skills in scheduling and basic insurance eligibility.
Please let me know if you know of any good courses or training resources. Thank you!
Me:
It seems like many dental practices either do not have the time, or simply cannot find the time, to adequately train their front desk teams. I do not believe the lack of training is intentional. Most leaders are doing the best they can while already juggling a full workload themselves. But the reality is that new team members are often expected to learn critical skills like scheduling, insurance verification, and patient communication on the job, without enough structure or support.
That is why I believe this is a widespread issue.
The front desk plays such an important role in the success of a practice, and yet many team members are left to learn by trial and error, not intentionally. It’s about the workload. That approach can only take them so far.
What do you think? Is this perhaps a bigger problem than we realize?
Dunkin? Nah, today it’s Duncan. 🍩😎
When your last name matches the moment a little too well. Welcome to Duncan.
A quick stop at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport before heading to the hotel for four days at the John Maxwell Leadership Conference.
I’m incredibly thankful to share this experience with my youngest daughter, Alyssa, as we intentionally invest in learning, growth, and leadership together.
One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is the decision to keep growing. Leadership is not just about influence, but about continued development, deeper purpose, and the willingness to become better for the sake of those we serve.
I’m looking forward to all that these next four days will bring and grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside someone I love.

Nearly $1,000,000 in patient payments had been collected at the front desk.
But the Dentist Never Received the Money. It Never Made it into the Bank Account.
Before you jump to conclusions…
It wasn’t fraud.
It was a massive breakdown in systems and accountability.
The most alarming part?
Neither the dentist nor the team had any awareness it was happening.
We uncovered it within the first two days of our front office systems evaluation.
Situations like this are rarely about bad people.
They’re about missing financial controls, unclear processes, and blind spots in the front office.
And in dentistry, those blind spots can cost practices hundreds of thousands — even millions — of dollars over time.
Every dental practice should be able to confidently answer three questions:
• Do we know exactly what was collected today?
• Do we know exactly what was deposited?
• And do those numbers match?
If the answer isn’t a clear yes, there’s a system gap somewhere.
Question for practice owners:
How confident are you that every dollar collected at your front desk actually makes it to your bank account?
We found this within 48 hours of reviewing their systems.
If you’d like us to take a quick look at your front desk processes, I’m offering a few complimentary evaluations for practice owners.

After 35 years in the dental front office world, one thing is very clear
Most teams aren’t struggling because they don’t care…
They’re struggling because they were never given the right systems, clarity, or training.
The good news?
That can be fixed.
I created a free Dental Front Office resource to help bring clarity to the roles, expectations, and daily workflows that make or break a practice.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where the gaps are — this is exactly why I made it.
Which of these 3 problems feels most real to you right now?
Your front office team lacks clear systems
Communication is inconsistent with patients or team
You’re unsure how to train or onboard the right way
Comment the number (1, 2, or 3) or
DM me “RESOURCE” and I’ll send it your way.
You don’t have to keep guessing your way through growth.

Some professional relationships turn into something much deeper over time.
For the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with Dr. Kato — and to this day, he is still my family’s dentist.
What makes Dr. Kato so special isn’t just his clinical skills (which are exceptional)… it’s who he is as a person.
His personal touch.
His small-practice warmth.
His genuine one-on-one approach with both patients and team members.
Every visit feels cared for, not rushed.
But what I truly want to celebrate is the man behind the title.
Dr. Kato is not just a dentist —
He is a husband.
A dad.
A son.
A brother.
A friend.
A leader.
A man of integrity with a soft spirit and a gentle voice that immediately puts people at ease.
Over the years, we’ve both faced our share of obstacles and seasons of growth. And honestly… seeing where we both stand today — still serving, still showing up, still adding value — is what made me smile this week.
Yes, our approaches have evolved.
Yes, the industry has changed.
But the heart behind the work?
That has remained the same.
Grateful for leaders like you, Dr. Kato.

Five years ago… the world stopped
When COVID hit, everything we knew about dentistry — and leadership — was turned upside down. Like many of you, I found myself in unfamiliar territory. The systems we trusted, the face-to-face connections we relied on, the way we “had always done it”… suddenly didn’t exist the same way.
If I’m honest — that season stretched me.
Five years ago, I was harder.
Firmer.
Very results-driven.
But what felt devastating at the time became one of my greatest breakthroughs.
Because here’s what I know now:
When you take care of people first… the results follow.
Through the shift to Zoom, texting, virtual communication, and new ways of serving patients, I learned something powerful:
Leadership isn’t about managing outcomes.
It’s about developing people.
Today, I show up differently — more aware, more intentional, and more focused on coaching teams to grow in confidence and accountability in their patient care.
And the impact has been incredible.
If I could give advice to the “me” from five years ago, it would be this:
Slow down. Lead people well. The results will come.
Prompt Question: What season in your career stretched you the most — and what did it teach you?
