@Coimbatoraan What were the stats for 2014 in these constituencies? DMK would have been 3rd everywhere in these booths then. In a straight fight during assembly elections, these votes would come back to DMK or ADMK. Nothing to worry about.

@Coimbatoraan In 2014, DMK got only 22% and was 3rd in 10 seats including CBE. Lost deposit in few. NDA got 19% in 2014. DMK did not have a PM candidate then and ADMK didnt have now. ADMK alliance has achieved similar 25% now. NDA secured less than 19%. So whats there wow at BJPs performance?

While the future is unpredictable, the past is always enlightening. The data from the RBI’ Handbook of Statistics on Indian States (2023) reveals the shallowness of those politicising the alleged change in economic rankings of Uttar Pradesh (UP) & Tamil Nadu (TN), as well as the total absence of basic facts in the public debate on the issue that played out over several days.

UP’s economy was in fact larger than that of TN’s for years, possibly decades (the current RBI data series only starts with 2004-2005) (Table 1). Considering that UP’s population is now roughly 3-times that of TN’s, this is not only to be expected, but it should also be DESIRED by all!

The relative progress on a Per-Capita (adjusted for Population) basis, is even more startling (RBI only publishes Per-Capita NSDP, and not GSDP) (Table 2).

The less well-off falling further behind is not in the interest of any Civilized society, as I have pointed out multiple time in discussions on the history of Union Finance Commissions and their failure to improve equity despite ever-increasing transfers from well-off to less well-off States.

It is only in the alleged age of “Amrit Kaal”, when India has apparently been reborn as if all memory of the past was erased, that UP’s GSDP "potentially" recovering to a size larger than TN, is considered miraculous, and a sign of great governance of UP, or failure of TN governance. Or perhaps both!

Perhaps the real tragedy of our times is that the Propaganda machine, arguably the most awesome and awe-inspiring in the history of mankind given the scale of India, has become so devoid of facts, logic, reason, or even humanity. It obliterates the space for informed debate and thoughtful & humane discourse which is so vital for a vibrant Democracy, and is the foundation for informed policy to power faster and more equitable growth. It is a curse on our society, removing every shred of intellectual content from the public discourse, and degrading it to the cultish, vacuous, chanting of inane noise.

உடனடி உட்கட்டமைப்புச் சீரமைப்புப் பணிகளுக்காக, SDRF-இல் இருந்து 280 கோடி ரூபாய் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

முழுக்க முழுக்க மாநிலப் பேரிடர் நிதியிலிருந்தும், மாநில அரசு நிதியிலும் இருந்தே நமது #DravidianModel அரசு இப்பணிகளைச் செய்து வருகிறது.

#Recolonisation in the name of #Decolonisation!
