There cannot be a bigger advertisement for the state of our urban (mis) governance - than this photograph.
The Chief Secretary of Karnataka, the top bureaucrat of the state, is personally inspecting roads and instructing local officials to fill potholes.
The Deputy Chief Minister proudly declares that he is monitoring pothole filling in “mission mode” and even claims the filling of 1,000 potholes a day as a major achievement.
But let us be clear - these are municipal functions, to be handled by municipal authorities. The fact that the highest state officials are now reduced to supervising Bengaluru’s potholes tells us everything about the collapse of urban governance. For nearly six years, Bengaluru has had no elected city corporation. In that vacuum, state leaders who should be shaping Karnataka’s future are playing the role of municipal commissioners.
The truth is unavoidable: unless we make municipal institutions as important as Parliament and the Assembly, empower them with authority and accountability, and ensure regular elections, our cities will never grow into the engines of development they are meant to be.

A combination of lack of civic sense and the incompetence of @bbmp in managing city garbage and debris has made our city filthy. Citizens must cooperate by not dumping garbage and creating ugly dark spots. Pourvakarmikas need to be given better equipment and training to keep our city clean. Zonal commissioners need to take ownership of SWM.
Endured stray #dogs for years— contacted NGOs, got them vaccinated etc. After 2 collision caused by strays that could’ve killed my family, I’m convinced: no stray should be on the streets. Supreme Court got it right. #PublicSafety#India#AnimalControl
@Tara_Deshpande Mosquitoes jumping on vehicles don't cause accidents. People don't play with snakes in front of our gate —they’re sent to shelters. Why is it so hard to accept that dogs don’t belong on the street? #StrayDogs#PublicSafety#India
Dear stray dog lovers,
If you are this upset with the SC decision to take the strays off the road, please take a few into your homes and give the dogs a loving home.
Shell out for their vaccinations, training and treatment. Put your money where your mouth is. Feeding stray dogs stale chapatis from your home does NOT make you an animal activist!
Warm regards,
Magic (Cocker Spaniel)

@blrcitytraffic why is JC road closed!! your advisory was to use JC road from in front of lalbagh west gate. Traffic is stuck in front of Ravindra Kalakshetra for over 30min now. This is real bad planning.

Norway just launched a damless river turbine that generates power without blocking water
Norwegian engineers have created a breakthrough in hydroelectric design — a river turbine system that generates power without any dams, barriers, or concrete channels. Installed in the Suldalslågen River, the device is fully submerged, suspended in mid-flow like a fishing net, turning kinetic water motion into electricity.
The turbine resembles a floating water mill — but sleek, modern, and built from marine-safe composites. Its internal rotor spins silently with the current, sending power through submerged cables to a floating converter platform.
What’s truly revolutionary is its ecological safety. It allows fish to swim through it unharmed, doesn’t alter the watercourse, and requires no excavation. This means rivers can be used for power without disturbing fragile ecosystems or migration paths.
The unit operates 24/7, even under ice, and requires almost no maintenance. Each turbine can power 10 homes — and hundreds can be linked across rivers without needing dams. It’s a decentralization dream.
Norway hopes this will enable developing nations and remote areas to generate clean power from rivers without expensive infrastructure. Energy, without destruction.
Hook: Norway’s damless river turbine could power entire communities without ever disturbing a single fish or stone.
