@fidjissimo , who runs applications at OpenAI, just moved her daughter to Alpha School. Two hours a day of AI driven, personalised academics. "She's already a different kid."
The reply that stayed with me: "I'm so hoping they release this for kids in markets they don't serve. Like mine."
Alpha costs up to $75,000 a year. Almost no parent in the world can pay that. Almost every parent wants what it gives.
I spent years inside edtech, including building one of the biggest of the last wave. Here's what I believe now:
AI will not replace the teacher. A seven year old learns from a person. But a teacher with AI beside her, one that knows what the child got wrong last week, nudges her mid class, and tells her afterwards exactly which minute worked, is a different teacher. A superhuman one.
And the curriculum stops being one book for thirty children. The same chapter becomes cricket scores for one child and dinosaurs for the next, rebuilt for how each of them actually learns, with a teacher signing off on every page.
And a parent who can see inside every class is a different parent. She knows whether it's working. Nobody has to call her to tell her.
Now imagine that teacher, and that curriculum, available to a child in Jaipur or Manchester, in Dubai or Melbourne, in Patna or Toronto, for less than Alpha charges for a single week.
That's the version of this I care about.
This year:
- INR has been crushed by 10%
- Pound by 25%
- Yen by 30%
But, the Russian Ruble has strengthened. Why?
