New Buyback Taxation regime = Madness
Just saw it after #Infosys buyback:

Entire payout = Deemed Dividend → taxed at slab rates (30–40%!)

Share acquisition cost only allowed as capital loss (set off over 8 yrs)

LTCG is 12.5%

Ex: Buy @ ₹1200, tender @ ₹1800 → tax hit = ₹720 (40% bracket) / ₹540 (30%).
You actually get less than invested + wait years to adjust losses.

If same couple makes 1.65 crore in Mumbai, India, effective tax rate is 31%. Tax paid = 51 lkahs

You pay 50% more tax for same income in India. + you pay 18-28% GST.
