25 years ago today I witnessed the most amazing day of cricket I’ve seen
Following on 274 runs behind, V V S Laxman & Rahul Dravid batted the entire fourth day at Kolkata
They set up a remarkable 171-run win … ending AUS’s record run of 16 consecutive Test victories
That such humiliation and conquest style messaging in cricket advertising is the new baseline that barely evoke any surprise is evident due to the far worse rivalry-based ads that even the official broadcaster has been releasing regularly (and withdrawing, when there's adequate backlash). By those standards, these ads would actually seem 'mild' 🤷♂️
A useful lens to think about ethics in advertising in this regard would be,
1. Does the creative celebrate my team, or does it mainly belittle the other? When the balance tilts strongly toward ridicule and symbolic harm, it starts to erode the game’s spirit even if it technically avoids hate speech.
2. If you showed this to a young fan from the opposing country, would it feel like friendly rivalry or like their identity is being mocked? If it’s the latter, then the line is probably being crossed.
But I guess we have crossed such a stage long ago.

Day 17 of tracking my formally registered footpath complaint.
I didn't want to post this video. I have been sitting on it for more than two weeks.
The whole point of filing the complaint formally was to go about this process via the official channels that have been built for this exact purpose.
My assumption was that BBMP Sahaaya was built for the convenience of the people of Bengaluru. But the last 17 days have revealed to me that it isn't working as intended. Countless people have replied to my posts saying, "I filed a complaint on the app and it was closed without explanation and without action taken." Stuff like potholes. Broken footpaths. Encroached pedestrian infra. Burning of trash. Piles of litter.
Maybe some of these get resolved. I have not seen the statistics. Maybe the city is up to its neck in grievances and simply doesn't have the manpower to tackle them all.
I love India. And I know that videos like this one do not paint the country in a positive light. But I also think it's important to recognise areas that could benefit from improvement. If they aren't highlighted continuously, it signals that everyone is ok with this reality. It signals that this is fine, that it's normal.
And it isn't. This is not normal, nor is it ok. This is an apocalyptic level of deterioration. This broken infrastructure is a total embarrassment, not just for Bengaluru or Karnataka, but for India. And this didn't happen yesterday. This footpath broke a long time ago. It has been sitting like this for months. This is just one example of hundreds of thousands of spots like this. India has so much potential. But it's being held back. Its growth is being stunted by inaction and sluggish responses to issues like these.
India is being held back by apathy.
Honestly, my hope was that I'd be able to use the footage in this video for a before/after video, showing the improvement the city made when they came in to fix the footpath after receiving my complaint. I really wanted this to be a positive story! And I still intend for it to be, it's just taking way longer than expected...
As many of you know, on Day 15 the case was closed with a very unsatisfactory fix. I feel that the bare minimum was done. Just enough work to be able to close the case. But nowhere near enough work to actually make the footpath walkable for pedestrians, especially people who are differently-abled, elderly, or parents pushing strollers.
I am still optimistic that this will be resolved. I will keep highlighting the status of the grievance each day until it's fixed.
All the best, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, for your CBSE 10th Standard Board Exams.
Attempt even 1 mark questions. Not just 4 or 6 mark questions.
And no need to hurry.
You have 180 minutes to get to your 100.
It's that week of the year when it was time for the last test match was coming up. A country went in frenzy for the one last time to watch the man who united them, who was/is and will always remain an emotion.
His runs and failures both felt ours. That's why #SRTForever

Hennur Bagalur Road has disintegrated fully. There is dust and sand everywhere. No lights at night. However, taxes are at the highest. Airport road should not be like this. No road actually should be like this. @HennurBlr@WFRising@HennurT@ArvindLBJP@DKShivakumar
