When Roger Penrose goes for a walk you might expect him to be thinking about cosmology etc. But he isn't. At least not always. Sometimes he is thinking about the walk itself. And the mathematics of it. Because Roger has his obsessions. Like lots of us.

The 12% Myth: How to set realistic return expectations from equities 🎯
Look at any asset allocation calculation and the long-term equity return assumption tends to be 12%.
So, where does the "12% annualised return" assumption for Indian equities come from? This chart.
It shows how a ₹10k monthly SIP from Jan 1995 would’ve done over three decades.
But does the 12% represent a realistic expectation? We don’t think so.

10 amazing productivity enhancement tools I use:
Multiplying anything by 0 is 0. No matter how large the number.
Character is like that. If character is not there, all other achievements mean nothing!
"India has 140 crore people, and if X% can become customers because of Y% in a developed country," is a dangerous line of thinking for founders and investors.
While building for up to 3% of English-speaking affluent Indians is easier, it's much harder and complex beyond that. Something we are pondering at Zerodha as well.
I guess the right way to think of this is, India is many countries in one. What works in one state or region may not work in another.
