We carry intergenerational trauma regardless of our backgrounds. Here is one such example where I realised for the first time that my amma and I had a lot in common. I saw her for the first time as a fellow human being, fighting the same fight.
Not one #caste.
Not one class.
Not one #religion.
Not lack of education.
This is not about “bad men.”
This is about a system.
#Patriarchy does not discriminate.
It only dominates.
At the receiving end, regardless of who we are, is a woman's body.
The two-tumbler system is still in use in several parts of the world. #casteism does not always need to take the form of aggression and violence. #discrimination can be subtle but effective, like a tumbler or a papercup
This divergence between population and contribution to India's GDP showcases the growth of the state and the success of it's policies. This is what @ptrmadurai keeps talking about
Tamil Nadu is in a unique pickle.
It has an increasing contribution to India’s GDP and a decreasing ratio of the country’s population. This divergence should ideally make Tamils feel rich. Except this is not the case because of the Finance Commission’s devolution and allocation.
How does Tamil Nadu have a high GER across all stages, with the highest GER in Higher Education? Especially for girls?
This. More schools. And fewer children. Which hopefully will mean an improving quality of education in the future.
The reason Tamil Nadu has a higher growth rate than its peers is entirely attributable to this additional labour force participation from women. The hap between the dotted and green lines.
This is why increasing the GER of women in higher education is a solid long term strategy.
