HYDRAFUSION IS NOT ANOTHER MODEL IN THE PICKER.

It is a runtime that builds the play.

GitHub shipped Project HydraFusion on September 4 as a research preview inside Copilot CLI. You select it like any other model. Then an orchestrator pulls models from more than one provider to draft, review, revise, or escalate.

This is not incremental autocomplete. This is orchestration treated as the product.

Breakdown:

1. Single: one model finishes and stops.
2. Cascade: a cheaper model drafts, a quality gate accepts or escalates.
3. Critique: one model drafts, a read only critic from another family reviews, then one revision.
4. Offline vs Claude Opus 5: TerminalBench 2.1 was +4.9 quality points at 67 percent lower estimated cost. DeepSWE sat 1.5 points under at 36 percent lower cost. CheckpointBench sat 0.1 under at 65 percent lower cost.
5. Every leg counts in the bill. Draft, critique, revision, escalation, retry, fallback. No separate orchestration fee listed.

A Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft said:
