A 23-year-old resident doctor, Dr. Karan Singh Sandhu, reportedly died by suicide after allegedly jumping from the seventh floor of the hospital.
Every such tragedy is a painful reminder that the mental health of resident doctors cannot be ignored.
Long working hours, relentless pressure, sleep deprivation, academic stress, and the stigma around seeking help continue to take a devastating toll.
A fair, transparent, and time-bound investigation should be conducted to determine all the circumstances surrounding this incident. At the same time, medical institutions must strengthen mental health support systems, ensure safe working conditions, and promote a culture where doctors can seek help without fear or stigma.
My deepest condolences to Dr. Karan Singh Sandhu's family, friends, and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace.
