Those who are wondering how China is so advanced also fail to notice that China systematically removed religion & related superstitions from its education curriculum since decades.

You can’t build “people who believe in themselves” while TVs broadcasting on a daily basis that it’s your Rahu and Kethu that determines your future.

Recently I was in a workshop in one of the government schools in Coastal Karnataka, wherein almost 100% of the students are from marginalized backgrounds, communities. Tye workshop had around 100+ student group, mainly studying in 8-10 standards. The workshop was with Prof. Narendra Nayak on scientific temper, humanism and rationalism.

I just asked a simple question to students. Who determines your future, basically in colloquial terminology, who writes your “hanebaraha “? Almost all of them answered, “Lord Brahma “. The next question question I asked was “tell me in how many of your households the first thing people watch on TV is “morning astrology session”. Almost all the hands went up. We do have recorded video of this session (thanks to Alok V Saldanha and Sazi Suber).

This was the similar experience we’ve had in two other schools before too. So, when we ask, why India isn’t able to come up with something groundbreaking, we should also evaluate what kind of future students, future citizens we are planning to build.

Once for all, I would like to say, no matter what kind of investments you make, unless the government systematically invests in making rational students, tries to invest in scientific temper from the grassroot level, especially in schools and colleges, you can never/never build a strong nation.
