During Navratri, when the country worships Goddess Durga and celebrates Nari Shakti, the treatment of a young woman protesting peacefully raises serious questions about the Goa government’s commitment to women’s dignity and freedom of expression.

Is Nari Shakti only for posters, speeches and political slogans? How can a government that speaks of women’s empowerment remain silent when a student is subjected to such treatment for raising her voice?

Peaceful protest is a constitutional right, not a crime. No woman should have to face such treatment for speaking up for her rights.
