Easily the greatest thing to come out of this trip, though, was my opportunity to see the lovely Chigumi-san again and meet for the first time Kyoko-san, his wife and the backbone for many (perhaps all) of Obayashi Nobuhiko's films.

Blow the Night is brilliant. Truly felt like a hidden gem when I rented it from a local video shop years ago. Definitely check it out. And I'm happy to see Tom Mes' involvement.
I'm involved in this release and can say these are very much worth seeking out. Blow the Night will change the way you look at Battle Royale and Blue Spring.
@JosephLa3rd@bufordsharkley@kevin__fm I see it primarily as an opportunity lost. A lot of really cool research is being done on these films recently, and I'm just (foolishly perhaps) wishing there could be more to give the films and the people that research them
To be clear, I'm thrilled to see these get a release. And while they might not be loaded with extras, there's a Mark Nornes piece. He's an excellent scholar and a kind person.... so there's that
People have been saying this is the release of the year, and they're not wrong, BUT... WHY is this just an eclipse release??!? Some of these are like the best documentaries of the 20th century. Deserves more.
