Tomorrow begins Childhood Cancer Awareness month. As you go through this month, please think about not only Elijah & how hard he fought, but also the 46 new children that will be diagnosed & sadly the seven children that will die EVERY SINGLE DAY from this horrible disease.🎗️🙏
Ten years ago. A day that I will remember for the rest of my life as if it happened this very moment. Hearing those words. Dropping to the floor of the hospital. Crying out, “Why Elijah?”….and then having to muster the courage to go and tell my nine-year-old son that he was in for the fight of his young life.
Just a few hours prior, he was playing with friends on the street, having dinner with his best buddy, going to school, all without a care in the world.
But then our world stopped. And cancer began.
You never know when life will change in a blink of an eye, and for our family and those closest to us, May 23, 2014 was the day that changed our lives forever.
My life will never be the same. Sam’s will never be the same. There is an emptiness that can never be filled and a sadness that will never truly find solace. But we live each day giving all the love that our hearts are capable of, and we know that they will be fully healed when we see Elijah again.
In honor of the 10-year-anniversary of his diagnosis, if you would like to donate to the Prayers for Elijah Foundation in Elijah’s memory, it is a way you can celebrate the wonderful, vibrant, kind and loving angel that he is. If you are unable to donate, we are always grateful for your prayers.
There is no timeline on grief, especially when it is your child. He was with me at his first breath and his very last, and he is in my thoughts hundreds of times each day. The pain of losing part of your soul is neverending…you just have to figure out a way to survive carrying it. I love you, my sweet angel. ❤️
**Here are some pictures from the early days after diagnosis…before it had metastasized….before clinical trials…and before Hospice. 💔
This world was a better place with Sherry Pollex in it. A selfless human and a warrior for childhood & ovarian cancer fighters around the globe. She can now rest in Heaven with my Angel. 2 Timothy 4:7 -I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

Knowing how much E loved his friends, I knew in my heart he would love having something like this in his room. How do I possibly thank every single one of the unbelievably caring and empathetic Seniors? His memory will live on through each of them, and I couldn’t ask for more.
So grateful to Cox Mill Elementary and Cox Mill High School for including Elijah in Senior Walk! I am so blessed to have such an incredibly loving community that continues to keep his memory alive. Lots of emotions, but I know he was there leading the parade with a huge smile!
A memory that will never be forgotten. I will always be grateful to @CameronNewton for putting a smile on Elijah’s face during his final days with us. 💛🎗️ https://t.co/o7veddBmxr
