It has to be my favorite archetype: the corruption of innocence, where a person slowly loses their sense of clarity or goodness and slips into madness. The truth is, they killed Kubrick for making this film then dramatically altered it before it's release.

Tom and Nicole had to 'go dark' after initially saying on seeing the theatrical release, "That's not the film we made with Stanley."
