I strongly condemn the shameful and unacceptable treatment meted out to our Members of Parliament. Dragging elected representatives on the streets for exercising their democratic right to protest outside the Home Minister’s office is not law enforcement - it is arrogance in uniform. This is a democracy, not the BJP’s private property.

Democracy does not function on the convenience or comfort of those in power. When BJP leaders protest, they expect red carpets and special privileges. When opposition MPs raise their voices, they are dragged, detained, and humiliated. This double standard exposes the BJP’s idea of democracy - obedience, not dissent.

Let it be clear: respect is mutual. You respect us, we respect you. You drag us on the road, and we will drag you back to the constitutional idea of tolerance, dissent, and democratic morality. This is our India. We are citizens by right, not at the mercy of a chair, a badge, or a position of power. No government, no party, and no Home Minister gets to decide who deserves dignity in a democracy.

To review the preparations for the Gangasagar Mela, I travelled to Sagar Island today. The dawn of a new year has brought with it a historic moment for both the pilgrims of Gangasagar and the people of the island. Ending a long wait, the Gangasagar Bridge, being built at a cost of ₹1,670 crore to connect Kakdwip and Gangasagar, had its foundation stone laid today. This 4-lane, 4.75-km-long modern bridge, spanning the Muri Ganga River, will make connectivity faster, safer, and more reliable. It will also significantly improve the transport of agricultural and industrial goods, while ensuring smoother travel for pilgrims, tourists, and residents alike. The construction agreement was formally exchanged today between the concerned department and the implementing authority.

I also inaugurated ‘Sagarkanya’, a newly built 100-bed dormitory, constructed at a cost of ₹8.8 crore, to provide better accommodation for the thousands of pilgrims who visit this sacred land. The refurbished tourism complex has been renamed ‘Ganganna’. Additionally, I handed over the benefits of GoWB schemes and services to 2.26 lakh people. In South 24 Parganas, I inaugurated 96 projects worth ₹394.93 crore, and laid foundation stones for 70 new projects, including the Gangasagar Bridge, with a total investment of ₹1,929.37 crore. I also remotely laid the foundation for a 3.4-km high-drainage canal system at a cost of ₹528.93 lakh, connecting Siddheshwari Kali Mandir to the Bidyadhari canal junction in Ashokenagar-Kalyangarh, North 24 Parganas. This project will benefit nearly 50,000 people, prevent waterlogging, protect farmlands from flooding, and help curb the spread of vector-borne diseases.

Today, I also unveiled the Gangasagar Mela 2026 booklet, detailing the comprehensive arrangements made by our government. For public welfare, we have fully waived the pilgrimage tax. Between 9 and 17 January, the state has arranged ₹5 lakh insurance coverage for pilgrims, residents, journalists, officials, or any other victims. Since the Maa-Maati-Manush Sarkaar assumed responsibility, uninterrupted electricity has reached even the most remote parts of the island. We have built three helipads, multiple jetties, formed the Sundarban Police District, established the Gangasagar Coastal Police Station and Kakdwip Harwood Point Coastal Police Station, and carried out the beautification and upgradation of the Kapil Muni Ashram, preserving both its sanctity and heritage.

I was deeply touched by the warm welcome extended by the mothers and sisters of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, through the sacred sound of conch shells and heartfelt ululation. Their selfless dedication to humanitarian service, especially in times of crisis, continues to inspire me. It was a privilege to personally distribute blankets among local residents, reaffirming that service to humanity remains our highest duty. I also offered prayers at the Kapil Muni Ashram, pledging myself to the welfare and dignity of our people.

We have documented 15 years of development through Unnayaner Panchali. Yet, certain divisive Jono-Birodhi forces, driven only by misinformation and malice, continue to spread false narratives, even targeting the fundamental democratic right of citizens to vote. The elderly, the ailing, and the vulnerable have been victims of this conspiracy that has already claimed precious lives. Bengal will respond to these Bangla-Birodhi forces through the strength of democracy, unity, and collective resolve.

May the bonds of peace, harmony, unity, and fraternity remain unbroken. May every life be uplifted by the grace of purity, faith, and compassion. The Gangasagar Mela has bound me with an invisible yet unshakeable thread of love. Sagar Island will forever hold a cherished and irreplaceable place in my heart.

Today, standing before the people of Bankura, I felt once again the power of affection and trust that has always defined Bengal’s relationship with me.

Bankura is a living archive of India’s artistic, intellectual and spiritual inheritance. This land cradled the divine journey of Sri Sri Maa Sarada Devi. It shaped the imagination of Jamini Roy, the pen of Ramananda Chattopadhyay, the genius of Ramkinkar Baij. The Bishnupur Gharana, enriched by Jadunath Bhattacharya, carried Bengal’s classical music into a new epoch. The terracotta temples of Bishnupur, the clay artistry of Panchmura, the elegance of Baluchari and Swarnachari sarees, the Dokra metal craft reflect the pulse of a people whose cultural confidence commands admiration far beyond India.

Our Maa-Mati-Manush Sarkaar has worked relentlessly to honour this legacy with progress. And yet, there are forces who recoil at the sight of Bengal advancing without fear or favour. They assert that disruption and infiltration exist nowhere but here. Then I ask them how did tragedy strike Pahalgam? How did sorrow descend upon Delhi? Who answers for the families of 57 citizens lost to the rushed and hurried Special Intensive Revision exercise? Who carries the moral weight of their grief?

Today, Bengalis live and work across the length and breadth of this country. Yet it is deeply disturbing that in several double-engine states, our people are being harassed and targeted merely for speaking Bengali, and are shamefully branded as “Bangladeshis.” When these Bangla-birodhi forces show such open disrespect for our language and subject Bengalis to humiliation simply for who they are, one can only imagine the threat they pose to our mother tongue, our identity, and our rich cultural heritage if they ever attempt to impose their politics on Bengal.

Those who claim to wish well for Bengal must first show that they respect its voice, its workers, its language, its icons, its people. Bengal does not tremble before propaganda. Bengal stands firm, speaks clearly, acts decisively. Let it be known if even one legitimate voter is removed unjustly, the response will rise from the conscience of the people in Bengal, and echo with equal moral force in Delhi. Democracy cannot be edited at the convenience of any party. Rights cannot be cancelled by pressure. Citizens cannot be made to stand alone in the face of injustice.

We have established 'May I Help You' camps across the state so that no person feels abandoned, unheard or powerless. I did not go to Bankura today to solicit votes. I went to uphold rights. I went to protect constitutional guarantees. I went because safeguarding the voice of the people is my only politics. I stand firmly with the people. Bengal has defeated injustice before, Bengal will defeat it again. Not through hatred, but through the unbreakable force of democratic unity.

The death toll keeps mounting. Another BLO appointed and engaged by the @ECISVEEP has taken his own life under the inhuman pressure of a HURRIED, CHAOTIC and POLITICALLY-MOTIVATED SIR process. Shri Haradhan Mondal of 249 Ranibandh AC, Part No. 206, died by suicide. In his suicide note, he explicitly held inhuman nature of the task responsible for his decision.

Over 50 lives have already been lost to panic, anxiety, exhaustion and fear engineered by a voter-cleansing operation designed for BJP’s electoral gain.

What should have been a methodical process has instead been bulldozed through by a pliant, complicit Election Commission, bending its spine to serve the political arithmetic of ONE PARTY and the ego of ONE MAN.

And as for the BJP, if people drop dead from fatigue, despair or terror, it is an acceptable collateral cost, a convenient footnote in their power play.

History is watching. Bengal will not forgive and Bengal will not forget.

Today, as I laid the foundation stone of Durga Angan in New Town, I was overwhelmed with a sense of elation and fulfillment. In 2021, UNESCO honoured our beloved Durga Puja with the distinguished recognition of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, acknowledging its universal resonance as both a spiritual invocation and a cultural celebration. The ceremony reflected the true spirit of Bengal. People across faiths, castes, communities, cultures, and generations gathered in collective reverence. In this moment, I saw the essence of unity, devotion, and shared pride that defines our land. This day will be inscribed in the golden pages of Bengal’s history.

Durga Angan will be built across 17.28 acres, with a total constructed area of nearly 2,00,000 square feet. The complex is envisioned as a yearlong sacred sanctuary, open 365 days, welcoming close to one lakh visitors every day. The central courtyard will accommodate 1,000 devotees at a time, allowing prayer to unfold in a shared spiritual congregation. A 20-foot-wide circumambulatory path will be adorned with 1,008 pillars and delicately sculpted arches. The main sanctum will rise to 54 metres, echoing the architectural grandeur of our spiritual texts. In adherence to sacred tenets, 108 divine idols and 64 lion sculptures will be consecrated within the complex.

Beyond the principal mandap, the premises will include individual mandaps for the Singhadwara, the Pradakshina path, a sacred Kund, and shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswati. There will also be a dedicated space for prasad preparation and a cultural museum celebrating Bengal’s artistic and spiritual legacy. The entire temple complex will be landscaped with over 300 trees and 1,000 flowering plants. Designed as a gold-certified green building, the complex emphasises natural illumination, ventilation, and ecological balance, ensuring that divinity and nature breathe within the same sacred enclosure.

A trust has been formed under the leadership of the Chief Secretary to oversee the upkeep, preservation, and management of this spiritual precinct. This initiative will not only enrich our cultural and spiritual expanse but also strengthen local enterprise, foster employment, and amplify Bengal’s stature on the world tourism map. Durga Angan will stand as a luminous confluence of Bengal’s spirituality and culture, a testament to unity in diversity that will welcome millions from India and across the world, inviting them to witness our art, heritage, devotion, and harmony.

On the 5th of next month, I shall lay the foundation stone of the much-awaited Gangasagar Setu, and in the second week of next month, the foundation stone of the Mahakal Temple at Matigara, near Siliguri. These endeavours reaffirm our commitment to uplifting pilgrimage sites of every faith. We walk the path of unity, never division. I remain guided by the universal ideals of Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, whose message of interfaith harmony lives at the core of Bengal’s soul. Every faith to me is sacred. Every community is equal. Humanity is the highest form of worship.

At every camp, Sebaashray turns governance into presence.

On Day 24 of #Sebaashray2 in Bishnupur, that presence was neither symbolic nor episodic, it was deliberate, organised, and grounded in follow-through.

The camp reflected a model of public service where healthcare is delivered not as a distant assurance, but as a lived reality, shaped around the needs of people rather than the convenience of systems. By placing medical support within reach, the initiative reduced those barriers quietly, without spectacle, but with tangible impact.

Bishnupur’s Day 24 reaffirmed what Sebaashray has consistently demonstrated across locations: effective governance is not measured by announcements, but by repetition; not by intent, but by reliability. When service becomes predictable, trust follows and that trust is the most enduring outcome of all.
