Kinda tired of everyone trying to be politically correct, trying to tell me how I should feel. This past year I discovered nepotism and white privilege and how disadvantaged I am being born Mexican.
Thank you. All my efforts feel pointless at this point. I have to worry about money, my parents getting older, helping out my family right now that my brother is in college. Getting older myself. Working a job I don’t enjoy in order to save up. Last thing on my mind is the mcat.
If you, the student that got into medical school and has a parents that's a doctor, high income, and endless resources thought it was tough to get into med school, now imagine the student who is a first generation, has little resources and cultural barriers to break. That's hard
The US medical system is facing a segregation crisis: when 75% of med students come from families in the top 40% of incomes, you’ve got a problem.
Meanwhile, the @NBME revenue has tripled in 20 yrs. And guess who is hit hardest? It's not the kid from 3 generations of doctors.
And this is why I’m 28 years old not even in med school yet. I don’t have anyone to support me, I worked my way through college, zero debt. I scored in the 80th percentile in everything, CARS I scored in the 14th percentile. I’m not dumb just broke.

I failed Calculus 1 three times, Gen Chem 1 three times. I now have a masters degree in chemistry, aced Orgo and Pchem. I also took and aced Partial Differential Equations as a senior. Anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard.
4 years ago I got a 0 on a quantum physics exam. i met with my professor fearing i needed to change my major & quit physics. today, i’m in a top tier astrophysics Ph.D program & published 2 papers.
STEM is hard for everyone—grades don’t mean you’re not good enough to do it.
@pissedoffpremed I have stopped. I’ll get done what I can get done. At the end of the day no one is going to take care of you if your health is gone. I take care of number 1 before I can help anybody else.
