“Take the win” redux:

Mr. President/@POTUS, Unless you consider it legitimate for #Iran to retaliate against #Israel for something that happened to #Hezbollah assets in #Beirut -- a position I am sure you do not endorse -- this has to be considered a totally unprovoked ballistic missile attack by the Iranians.

I hope your advisors have cautioned you that equating Iran and Israel by suggesting each side "had their fun" may well be remembered for going beyond your predecessor's April 2024 request for Israel to "take the win,” a position you critiqued heavily on the campaign trail. (After all, that Iranian attack was at least in retaliation for Israel’s targeting of IRGC personnel in Damascus.)

At that time, Israel rejected US advice, responded with a carefully calibrated retaliatory strike on Iranian air defense sites and the situation deescalated. I urge you to consider the notion that we would all be better off with a similar outcome in the current situation - indeed, it is more likely to hasten a diplomatic solution to the U.S.-Iran conflict than feeding Iran’s appetite by publicly and visibly restraining the side targeted by today’s missile attack.
