@jengerson Alberta is not having a referendum to join the US. We are having a referendum on whether we should have a referendum to become our own nation.
“The genie is out of the bottle. It’s not going back in.”
Asked whether he’d accept a “No” vote and end the separation push, Mitch Sylvestre said it depends on a lot of factors, but added the movement won’t stop.
U.S. church leader with ties to the Trump administration declares support for Alberta's independence movement: https://t.co/odhGnDGdpn By my pal @nvanderklippe
Only a hissy fit will do, which just feeds the beast of illiberalism, grievance and jettisoning rule of law and institutions.
Conservatives should stop blaming others for their problems. If you don’t like federal policies, stop sucking at politics and elect someone else.
Clown show. 🤡
One nutty separatist leader (Rath) says that I’m a Canadian patriot because I want to draft young Albertans “to die in the Ukraine war.”
Another nutty separatist leader (Sylvester) says that his Republic of Alberta would actually impose a military draft on young Albertans.
To fight in what war? 🧐
Albertans thinking of voting for separation to “send a message” or “get a new deal:” this is the kind of whackiness you would be enabling.
Alberta doesn’t have to population to even staff all of the needs of a new “whatever they think it will be”
It will be chaos and no leadership because they hate government.
Just a bunch of people with rifles trying to figure out how sell oil
This really needs to be made clearer by the separatists. Their version of a consequence-free "Independence" is looking more and more like "Canadian, but with twice the paperwork."
Wab Kinew on fact-checking Danielle Smith: "Somebody's got to stick up for Canada. And I love this country so much ... if there is going to be a referendum, I don't want fake news to be framing it up."
Some Alberta companies say the unstable political climate in light of the separation referendum question is spooking investors and prompting them to consider moving operations elsewhere: "It’s not good for us."

I'm also just going to note that presuming annexation is off the table, literally nobody in the Republic of Alberta's leadership class has what it takes to negotiate deftly with America.
Oh, you think Ottawa's the big bad?
My dear sweet sugar cookies.
The irony is the seppies are throwing the biggest tantrum during a time that we could be getting the best deals for economic success than we’ve ever had.
I’d like a referendum on holding the province accountable for the state of education and healthcare and keep their noses out of municipal policy and properly fund municipalities
