Hey folks 👋
Do you want to know more about @clarityibd?
✅how/why it started? The latest results and what they mean?
Then do watch the talk by Dr Tariq Ahmad (@clarityibd very own 🎩🌟)

The environmental pressures on a modern gut are undoubtedly different from those of our hunter-gatherer ancestors. The microbiomes would reflect this.
What does this mean for us today?
The paleo vs plant-based debate shows this is complex.
More data would help!
We now have clear guidance from JCVI on those patients eligible for a 3rd primary dose of COVID vaccine.
This includes IBD patients on infliximab, adalimumab, ustekinumab, tofacitinib, prednisolone and some on high-dose aza/mp/mtx.

The impact of Crohn's disease and UC on a person's life can be devastating.
With 1 in 125 of the population living with #IBD it is important we realise what they might be going through.
It isn't just physical; here 👇 are just some of the ways IBD affects people.
A reminder about our important study
TO ALL PARTICIPANTS:
- please log into the portal and complete a questionnaire today
- it doesn't matter how late it is
- late is definitely better than never
Thank you
We are developing and testing increasingly targeted therapies for Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis.
New molecules will hopefully bring increased efficacy with minimal / no safety issues.
Not all will make it to market - some have already failed.
But there is more to come.
Prevention and cure are big words with a big impact.
But are they possible in IBD?
I've mapped out some of the key steps to move us to preventing IBD.
Data are coming ...

What happens when the delicate balance between environment, genes and microbiota is disrupted?
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can develop
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis now affect 1 in 125 people in the developed world.
The numbers are going up fast elsewhere.
I have a big favour to ask.
Have you taken part in the @PREdiCCt study? Then we need your help.
Please log into the PREdiCCt portal and complete the final questionniare.
Here is why this is so important and a big thank you.

Multiple environmental factors impact the gut in health and inflammatory bowel disease:
• diet
• sleep
• travel
• stress
• surgery
• hygiene
• exercise
• smoking
• geography
• emulsifiers
• medications
Important to take a HOLISTIC approach to health and disease.
These data were presented as an e-poster at the DDW and ECCO meetings this year by our IBD clinical fellow turned consultant @SSiakavellas

What causes disease flares in IBD?
We asked the 2639 participants of the @PREdiCCt study in their baseline questionnaire.
1946 replied - these were their top responses
• stress (69.8%)
• dietary changes (46.8%)
• alcohol (19%)
• sleep disturbance (17%)

I've started to think about life for our patients post-pandemic.
We face many challenges but I'm optimistic.
Advances in drug development, genomics, digital health, AI & more.
This is the start of a new series on Innovations in IBD & the story of the innovators.

We asked 1946 patients with Crohn's and UC in remission about fatigue: here's what we found.
40% of patients were fatigued >50% of the time.
Factors associated with fatigue
• depression & anxiety
• clinical disease activity
• female sex and higher BMI
