We're hosting the Atomic Quantum Matter 2026 conference from September 7th to 11th in Vienna. https://t.co/XpjEHAbklx
Join us for a week of expert talks on individually controlled ultracold atoms!
Abstract submission deadline is June 15th.
@ISTAustria@MCQST_cluster
Our work on spinning two fermions up into a Laughlin state in a rotating trap is now published in PRL @structures_hd. With a nice viewpoint by @QManyBody

Our work with @covestro on simulating molecular wavefunctions with ultracold fermions is now online.
A powerful Ansatz for molecular trial wavefunctions exactly fits into a superlattice and generates optimized fermionic gate sequences.

Deeply honored to receive the Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize today #FENS2022. Grateful to my group, mentors, collaborators and family for all of their support. Special thanks to @StephenEglen who could not be here and @alfairhall for her kind introduction.
Going back to the momentum space images, we can identify those correlated atoms as 'Baby Cooper pairs'. We were surprised to see how strong the effect is even in a tiny system!
Thanks to all the coauthors!
One of the coolest projects from my postdoc @UniHeidelberg was published @nature today: Observation of Cooper pairs in a mesoscopic two-dimensional Fermi gas https://t.co/tq67tDR2Bz. We directly imaged Cooper pairs!
We prepare exactly twelve ultracold, attractively interacting atoms in an optical tweezer, let them expand, and take single-atom and spin-resolved images in momentum space. We directly see correlations between spin up and down atoms across the Fermi surface of this tiny system.
Excited to share that I was awarded the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz-Preis 2022. Especially thankful to my mentors for their support and my group for pushing our research forward. I will be moving to @TU_Muenchen as a W3 professor, and am excited for what lies ahead.
#Quantum Funding in Bavaria. The economy minister Hubert Aiwanger has visited our institute today to hand over the Bavarian grants for the #MunichQuantumValley to the partner organisations @maxplanckpress and @Fraunhofer and to take a look at a future quantum computer at MPQ.

Presseakkreditierung👉https://t.co/QYkOb0OMsT
I’m starting a new ERC-funded project, UniRand, at @MPI_Quantum. We’ll explore new ways of assembling ultracold lattice systems and their connections to quantum information concepts.
I'm looking for highly motivated students and postdocs to join the team!

New beginnings!
In July, I bade farewell to my wonderful colleagues in Selim Jochim's group @UniHeidelberg. Thank you all!
Yesterday I started my new position as a group leader @MPI_Quantum in Garching. Looking forward to many new adventures and collaborations! #FermiQP
I'll be moving to MPQ Garching in the fall to lead the experimental team on our new Fermion Quantum Processor FermiQP. Several PhD and Postdoc positions available. Come join us!
We are starting a new joint project on a next generation Fermion Quantum Processor (FermiQP), a hybrid platform for analogue quantum simulation and digital quantum computing.
Several PhD and Postdoc positions are available on our team!
