Sahil is not the first student to get caught cheating at IIT Bombay.

Engineering Exams are mostly open book examination where we are allowed to use calculators and formula sheets. Sometimes we can carry books as well in open book examination.

To prove Chat GPT usage claims, police just needs to access the search history of Sahil’s mobile.

Cheating claims are bogus unless you are switching exam sheets. Whoever appeared for an Engineering Examination knows that even after having tools like calculators and open book, it takes another set of skills to find the perfect answer to the analytical problem. And to score more than 60 marks in Top 100 Engineering Schools requires intellect capabilities many toppers of Tier 2,3 Engineering Colleges don’t posses. Sahil was a 8.5 pointer in IIT Bombay which puts him above toppers of many Private Universities of India.

Using Chat GPT for cheating in Engineering Examination means one has to take the image of the question paper or type in the prompt in the middle of examination into his Phone. This “prompt typing” angle is highly unlikely as the Invigilator can easily catch you doing that.

Did IIT Bombay allow mobile phones into examination hall? That is the pertinent question to ask.
