On the occasion of the World Maritime Day 2026 which we marked in Lagos today, I reaffirmed the Federal Governmentβs commitment to developing globally competitive Nigerian seafarers through expanded training, professional certification and practical onboard experience.
We are strengthening partnerships, modernising our ports, improving maritime security and investing in fisheries and aquaculture to create jobs, boost productivity and enhance food security.
With fish production rising from 1.1 million to 1.4 million metric tonnes in 2025, we are building on this progress through responsible aquaculture, improved processing and better market access.
Our focus is to translate policy into practice, strengthen Nigeriaβs maritime competitiveness and unlock the full potential of our Marine and Blue Economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.

βWhere Did You Get The Money To Buy These Exotic Cars? What Is Your Occupation? And Donβt Tell Me Your Family Is Rich Or Give Me That Bullsh!t About Music, Because These People Havenβt Sold a Single Album And Nobody Books Them For Shows. So, Where Does The Money Theyβre Lavishing Come From?β. ~ VeryDarkMan Calls Out Osun State Governor Ademola Adelekeβs Sons, B-Red And Sina Rambo, Cousins To Davido Over Their Extravagant Lifestyles And Spending π
Just imagine if Rauf Aregbesola and the APC in Osun had given the rerun ticket to Ademola Adeleke instead of Mudashir Hussein in 2017, after the death of Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon). That breakaway from the Adeleke family and their supporters is one of the reasons Osun is not under APC today, even though Governor Oyetola defeated the Dancing governor in 2018 and governed for a term.
If the incumbent governor had also joined the APC some months ago, it would have saved our party a lot of stress and unnecessary spending. Governor Adeleke will join the APC in 2027, and life will go on.
Sometimes, forgiving an old enemy and working with them, especially in politics, can be a smart strategic move. That person will have a lot to prove to you. We keep learning in this game. βοΈβοΈ
Today in Accra, the Hon. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy @GboyegaOyetola met with Ghanaβs Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Emelia Arthur, in Accra to strengthen bilateral cooperation on fisheries governance, vessel authorisation and the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Nigeria is leading the charge on vessel verification and regional cooperation through the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC).
In his capacity as President of the FCWC, the Honourable Minister also visited the Committee's Secretariat in Tema, where he met with the Secretary General,
Dr. Antoine Djihinto, and commended the progress recorded over the past year.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to working with all six member states to strengthen regional fisheries governance, protect marine resources and build a sustainable and prosperous blue economy.
From securing our waters to protecting fishermen's livelihood Oyetola is delivering.
