Overseas care workers contribute so much to social care. Making it harder to get staff for care homes and home care will have knock-on effects on older people's health, wellbeing and independence @GeriSoc
Huge thanks to @RowanHarwood who hands on the baton after a terrific stint as editor-in-chief @Age_and_Ageing .
Under his stewardship the already excellent standing of the journal has continued to improve. Great work Rowan! Congratulations to his successor Prof Roy Soiza.
“So there we had it. While more men, women and children were dying in Gaza, all UK parties were using the conflict for marginal, parochial gains.”
While people die in Gaza, the UK parliament goes to war over the ceasefire | John Crace https://t.co/lQ2CqFTr8R
Would like to know which MPs could vote against an immediate ceasefire in Gaza after watching this visualisation of the children killed so far. Feel free to tag your MP. #ceasefirenow
Really important. Treating high BP in older people admitted for non cardiovascular reasons (ie lots of people) causes them
HARM. Stop it please. #NoStatAmlodipine
I do not begrudge competitive salaries
It’s not a race to the bottom
That being said, here’s the managers salaries at @gmcuk which fleeces us annually and with whom the profession is entirely disillusioned
New analysis shows Consultant pay has fallen far behind that of comparable professions.
Why is saving a life worth so little to this Government?
Solidarity to those taking #ConsultantStrike action today. https://t.co/MqN3WmvSE7
The radiographers strike next Tuesday will be more disruptive than anything we’ve seen with junior doctors or consultants. Radiographers support every almost aspect of healthcare delivery. Most heart attack centres will be able to only run one CathLlab for emergencies.
@RobLaurensonD4P@SteveBarclay@wesstreeting Completely agree
If the government want to end this dispute quickly, for the benefits of patients, there needs to be honest discussion.
The Consultants of Dorset hospital have written a letter to @SteveBarclay
They strike tomorrow
This letter is incredible
I challenge anyone to refute a single point in it
Worth a read for you too @wesstreeting
On World Refugee Day, I'm sharing my humble journey from seeking safety to becoming a doctor:
. 1999 - forced to leave family in Afghanistan to seek safety in UK aged 15 having lived childhood in war and camps
. 2001 - started college (A-levels) with not much formal education or command of English
. 2003 - got admitted to study medicine at @Cambridge_Uni despite many discouraging, saying I wasn't white and not educated enough
. 2006 - graduated from Cambridge and finished studies at Harvard and Imperial despite battling PTSD and loneliness
. 2010 - qualified as a doctor, and have since been proudly serving people in the NHS and 🌎 as a doctor.
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt on this journey, it’s this - refugees are not victims. We are survivors, dreamers, contributors. The bravery of all those who seek safety should be celebrated.
