Six weeks and 2,834,842 steps later, our teams have covered nearly 1,240 miles in this year’s Spring Step Count Challenge! Come rain or shine, we’ve all felt the benefits of getting out and about. #StepCountChallenge
We hear the term ‘copy-editing’ bandied about a fair bit in the publishing industry (sometimes interchangeably with ‘proofreading’), but what does it actually mean? Read our ‘What is copy-editing?’ blog post on the Prepress Projects website to find out: https://t.co/t6hwGVBMOI.
Remember, ‘effect’ is a noun and ‘affect’ is a verb: ‘The effects of sleep deprivation on performance are significant.’ ‘Sleep deprivation significantly affects performance.’ #PrepressTips
We’re on to the last leg of the #StepCountChallenge, and the sudden onset of summer temperatures over the weekend has helped boost our numbers to a Prepress total of 2,453,930 steps!
Remember, 'programme' is the UK spelling for a set of events or activities, and 'program' is the US spelling. But both UK English and US English use 'program' to refer to computer or machine software. 💻 #PrepressTip
The Prepress teams are in the home stretch of the #StepCountChallenge: Prepressers have walked total of 2,096,170 steps or nearly 917 miles! But most importantly, we're getting out into nature, seeing sights close to home and further away.
Writing for clarity and writing for grammatical correctness go together, and sometimes we may need do a little more to make sure that the reader can understand our – perfectly grammatically correct – sentence on first read: ‘Older people man the boat.’ (2/2) #PrepressTip
‘The old man the boat’ is a grammatically correct sentence, but it’s not an easy read! It’s a garden path sentence: the reader is led to think a word will function one way (that ‘old’ is an adjective) when it’s actually working another way (here it’s a noun). (1/2) #PrepressTip
This week is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and Prepressers are building mentally healthy habits – moving and spending time in nature – thanks to the #StepCountChallenge. We've even passed the million-step mark, hitting a combined total of 1,564,257 steps! 🥾
‘Historic’ describes something significant or celebrated in history, e.g. ‘a historic victory’, while ‘historical’ describes something that relates generally to the past, e.g. ‘a historical figure’. #PrepressTip
The #StepCountChallenge continues, with Prepressers getting out and about in weather foul and fair. We've hit a combined 964,743 steps after two weeks – that's nearly 422 miles! 🥾
On the other hand, ‘e.g.’ (‘exempli gratia’ in Latin) is another way of saying ‘for example’ and comes before an item or list that demonstrates the point being made: ‘We should set a deadline (e.g. Monday or Tuesday)’. #PrepressTips (2/2)
Need to add more information with the abbreviations ‘e.g.’ and ‘i.e.’? ‘I.e.’ comes from the Latin ‘id est’, or ‘that is’, and is a way of clarifying a point by restating the same information: ‘We’ll meet in a week’s time (i.e. next Monday)’. #PrepressTips (1/2)
And we’re off! Our efforts in the first week of the Step Count Challenge were rewarded with a bout of lovely weather over the weekend, and our teams hit a combined total of 513,547 steps – nearly 225 miles! 📷#StepCountChallenge
How is American English different to, from or than British English? For one thing, American English more commonly uses ‘different than’, particularly when introducing a clause. British English generally favours 'different from/to'. #PrepressTip
Here's some of Copy and Paced out for a team walk along the South Inch in Perth, hanging out with their new mascots, the South Inch swans! 🦢 #StepCountChallenge (2/2)
This week Prepress joined the @walking_scot spring 2026 #StepCountChallenge, and we're pleased to announce our two teams: 'the Print Runners' and 'Copy and Paced'.🏃
We'll be doing our best to get out and walk, and we'll be posting a weekly step update as we go! 👣 (1/2)
Professional development training shouldn’t stop in the boardroom; that’s why our directors continue to learn and grow in their roles. Check out our MD Lucy Harrier's blog post ‘Why continuing professional development matters for directors’ here: https://t.co/cj3xI6m0Wm.
Keep a wary eye out for sneaky typos in proper nouns: ‘Demark’, ‘Untied Kingdom’ and ‘Check Republic’ won’t be caught by a spell checker! #PrepressTips
As we enter into a new season, what better time to announce our new and improved team names? In honour of our beautiful Perthshire location, we’re pleased to introduce teams Kinnoull, Magdalene and Moncreiffe, named after three of the area’s most recognisable hills.
