We had 140 Zoom calls and 16 virtual events running live out of our master control room when the internet went down.
The failover kicked in. The backups worked as planned. The sessions carried on.
Yesterday I wrote about the backup encoder on every stream, the second laptop with the deck already loaded, and the internet that doesn't rely on the venue Wi-Fi.
That's why it's there. Most days it sits doing nothing. Then one day you've got 156 live sessions on the go and the connection drops.
If you run a creative or branding agency, you probably already have an AV partner. And you probably won't look at changing until something goes wrong.
I get it. When a show is going fine, nobody wants to rock the boat.
So here's what I'd want you to know before that day comes.
On every show we run at Present there's a backup encoder on the stream, a second laptop with the deck already loaded, and internet that doesn't rely on the venue Wi-Fi.
It's the same way we worked when we broadcast fashion shows to 40 million viewers.
If you're an agency and you want a production partner you don't have to worry about, come and say hello. We're on stand C38 at Event Tech Live, ExCeL London, 11-12 November.
If you think I deserve a place in the final 50, I’d really appreciate your vote.
And whether you vote for me or not, take a look through the nominations.
There are some brilliant people on the list who have genuinely helped move our industry forward.

We love a little feedback - I wanted to take a moment to extend a big thank you to everyone who supported us in making our All Staff Get Together such a success. The event ran brilliantly, and I’m pleased to say everything went smoothly without any hiccups. Your team’s hard work and attention to detail truly made the difference.
Please do pass on my thanks to Kieran, Leo, Sam, Noah, Wes, and everyone involved. It was a real pleasure working with you all, and I appreciate the effort that went into making the day run seamlessly.
@EventNewsBlog Our very own @kierongarlic talks about live, hybrid and virtual. Is hybrid still a thing, or are event organisers missing a trick... again?
We’re really pleased to be supporting the Lord Mayor’s Appeal as the media partner for the upcoming Lady Mayoress’s Ride Out, sponsored by @UKTriumph
It’s a fantastic initiative, bringing people together to support a range of important causes around mental health, inclusion and opportunity. Events like this genuinely make a difference, and it’s great to play a small part in helping tell that story.
We’ll be on hand to capture the day, create content and help extend the reach of the campaign beyond the event itself.
You'll see us at the @ROARb2b show this year, just like last. Check out their recent podcast about the value of B2B podcasting. https://t.co/oyO62feG8b
