@astersbookshelf I feel like this kind of happens with the home page "To-Read Pile", which gives new titles with every refresh. I've chosen the first one at random a few times when I'm not sure what I want next.
@kqteharker Yes, please. I love horror and don't like romance. I read AJW and did not enjoy that writing style. My favorite authors include Nnedi Okorafor, Stephen King, and Holly Jackson.
@emkenobi People are also super pressed about the horse. Who cares. The sacking of Troy happens in the first 5 seconds of The Odyssey and isn't the main event of the book.
@JoshPhillipsPhD This is wrong on multiple levels, but the easiest one to take down is that "the vast majority of these challenges are just parents who want "age restricted" access on certain books".
< 3% of challenges in 2025 were from individual parents.

@nickimoraa I'm the Director at my library job and have one male coworker. Contractors will, without fail, walk straight past me to talk to him. And I just stand there and smile as he turns them around and tells them I'm the one making all the decisions - financial and otherwise.
@eph__em__era@aurora_reads To be fair, sometimes they show up out of nowhere. I was reading 'A Broken Blade' which is a high-fantasy adventure and then in the last 5 pages he's graphically fingering her. Hit me like a SLAP.
@jayneiskool No. Project Hail Mary is an excellent book but it's far from the space operas that lots of people associate with sci-fi. PHM is a lot more heartfelt and familial than most sci-fi stories IMO.
