@thehill Food4Thought: How are police supposed to pay for de-escalation training, body cameras, oversight, and other items to improve racial relations if their budgets are diverted? Probably need to increase budgets with line-item budgets for specific programs such as above.

@thehill Proud democrat here but ya'll making a big mistake with this defund the police efforts. Reform needed badly but defunding only hurts people that need it most. Source: living in a 90%-majority black part of city with almost no police presence w/ daily shootings killing black ppl.

@mayorcantrell That is true but you should have responded by increasing budget for patrols and other proactive measures...you saw a revolving door of violent criminals into your city, and said "not my problem...people don't need any protection"??? That's definitely not leadership!
