“Some amendments proposed by the public are unconstitutional.”
Apparently, we are not supposed to rewrite the Constitution but only amend it. 😂
Today’s discussion raised an interesting question: if certain provisions cannot be touched because they have already been interpreted or ruled on by the Constitutional Court, then what exactly is the purpose of this review process?
Surely one of the reasons people propose amendments is to clarify wording, close loopholes, and remove ambiguities that have led to interpretations they disagree with.
We were told that provisions such as “every child has a right to education” are rooted in international instruments, including the 1951 UN Convention, and therefore cannot simply be changed.
The @EFFSouthAfrica representative argued that South Africa cannot isolate itself from the international community and must remain aligned with its international obligations.
@Mngxitama2 then posed a question that many South Africans may be asking: if public submissions can be dismissed as unconstitutional and rejected by the legal team, what is the actual purpose of the Constitutional Review Committee? He argued that it cannot be correct for the concerns and proposals of citizens to be set aside on that basis alone.
A fair question remains: if some parts of the Constitution are effectively beyond the reach of public amendment proposals, what exactly are South Africans being invited to review?

DUTCH DRUG MULE ARRESTED AT OR TAMBO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, KHAT WORTH R240 000 SEIZED
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested another drug mule at the OR Tambo International Airport following an intelligence-driven operation conducted this week.
The suspect, a Dutch national from the Netherlands, was reportedly en route to Frankfurt, Germany, when he was intercepted by police at the airport.
During the operation, police seized more than 40 kilograms of Khat concealed inside the suspect’s luggage. The drugs have an estimated street value of R240 000.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 May 2026, on charges related to drug trafficking.
The SAPS continues to intensify efforts to combat transnational organised crime and drug trafficking through intelligence-led operations at all ports of entry across the country.
Over the past two years, SAPS has intercepted and arrested more than 50 drug mules at the OR Tambo International Airport.
48 illegal foreign nationals were intercepted at the Polokwane Traffic Control Centre after two minibuses travelling from Zimbabwe to Gauteng were stopped on the N1 bypass.
Authorities found that only two of the 50 passengers had valid passports, while the remaining 48 were allegedly in the country illegally. They will be escorted to the Beitbridge Border for deportation.
Both minibuses were impounded for allegedly breaching operating licence conditions.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety says it will continue working with law enforcement agencies to protect commuters, enforce immigration laws and uphold road safety regulations.
The propaganda against native South Africans is in full swing. Somalis hijacked & refused to vacate a house belonging to a South African who called community members for assistance. SA media is now portraying the Somalis as victims🚮🚮
If Thato was a Foreigner the South African government would be up in its arms calling for justice but because he is South African they are quiet. We are on our own.
Yes, via judicial review or mandamus proceedings in the High Court, we can challenge the government's failure to implement/enforce immigration laws. Standing and evidence of unlawfulness are key.
