There’s been alot of misinformation about countries protecting and aiding the @globalsumudflotilla so we tried to make it very easy with this post. Spain is the only country that is currently offering support all the way to Gaza. The Spanish Navy Ship, Furor, is 10-12 nautical miles behind the flotilla and its role is to be available to assist the flotilla in case Israel attacks. 

The Italian Navy’s frigate Alpino is currently following the flotilla but is scheduled to cease its escort on Tuesday, September 30th, after sending an alert to the flotilla’s vessels. 

Greece stated that it will guarantee the safe sailing of boats currently in its waters, its foreign minister said on Thursday, adding that Athens had informed Israel that Greek citizens were in the flotilla. They will not be following the flotilla to Gaza.

Turkey helped evacuate activists aboard after one of the vessels broke down and began taking on water and also distributed additional humanitarian aid to the flotilla. Turkey will not be sending a navy ship to follow the flotilla to Gaza.

⚡️🇮🇹BREAKING:

The Italian Navy announced that it will stop escorting the flotilla to Gaza once it approaches within 150 nautical miles of the coast, in an attempt to prevent a diplomatic incident with Israel.

The Sumud Flotilla stated: the Italian Foreign Ministry informed us that the frigate accompanying the flotilla will issue a call allowing participants to return to shore before reaching the “critical zone.” What Italy is doing is not protection but sabotage, an attempt to foil the mission, acting as a tool in Israel’s hands instead of protecting the volunteers.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Navy is preparing to seize the largest convoy aimed at breaking the siege on the Gaza Strip, which consists of 50 ships and hundreds of activists and volunteers from 44 nationalities.

FLOTILLA UPDATE: We are a few hours from crossing into the ‘danger zone’ where, based on past precedent, Israel might intercept us.

The Italian navy has said that its frigate will leave at this point and offer participants the opportunity to return to shore. We are unsure about Spain and Turkey’s ships.

I am confident no one will take Italy up on the offer: our sights are set firmly on Gaza. We’re going all the way 🇵🇸
