"Imagine if Patricia Highsmith hadn’t had to hide behind male characters" is going to send me in an early grave....imagine thinking Highsmith as a trembling little wallflower hiding behind Tom Ripley because the world wasn't ready for fictional women in 1955
As a child of the sixties, I’ve seen every crisis, incl 3 full wars, food shortages, calamities. This is our biggest post-Partition crisis & never has India seen a Govt missing in action like this. No control rooms to call, nobody accountable to reach. It’s a governance rout.
YOU CANNOT be “cleared” for a gathering by a negative COVID test
1) Might be too early in course to detect virus
2) ~20% of tests are false negatives
3) You could become infected literally 0.1 seconds after your swab
Sincerely,
An increasingly desperate ER doctor
People don't realize that there are contexts. In India, astrology is invoked in marriage to make some prospective brides go through humiliating rituals.
So even when I see people indulge in "harmless" astrology, I see it as a road to superstition that could cause harm one day.
It's bizarre how the world still recognises India as a secular state when it's an openly Hindu state where the Prime Minister lays the foundation stone of Parliament building as per brahminical rituals.
It's high time we get out of this collective denial.
Having a difficult time putting into words the feeling I had when I left the hospital after doing chest compressions on a coding young person who lost their fight with COVID, to see a normal packed Friday night at bars and restaurants...
If we saw the head of the ruling regime, and his party, react to the election results this way in any other country, we'd know exactly what we are looking at.
And I'd say here, too, it's time to be honest and say we know exactly what we are looking at. https://t.co/aLQetMNmjR
