This actually makes sense for both sides — Zirkzee was bought to be Ten Hag’s link-up #9 but never fit Amorim/Carrick’s system, and now with Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo and Rashford back ahead of him, he’s had 1 start in 10 games under Carrick. Fiorentina need a Kean replacement and Zirkzee already proved himself in Serie A at Bologna before the £36.5m move. Coming home to Italy might be where he finally gets minutes again.
