On World Environment Day, President Droupadi Murmu planted Dupahariya (Pentapetes phoenicea), an indigenous flowering plant species in Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan for the Summer Annual edition 2026. About 27 flowering species, such as Aparajita (Clitoria ternatea), Gul-mehndi (Impatiens balsamina), and Rukmini (Ixora acuminata), which are grown in different parts of the country and known by their distinct local names, are being planted.

The initiative aims to promote seasonal biodiversity, preserve Indian ornamental plant wealth, and further enhance the aesthetic and ecological value of the gardens. It will also provide visitors an opportunity to appreciate the diversity of flowering plants traditionally cultivated across different regions of India.
