So, just to generally and briefly address this.

To the people who fall in this category, know that, the feeling is normal. You are not the only one who gets to 25, or 30, or 35 and still get that career path uncertainty. The feeling is so common it should have a public holiday.

The thing is, the people who eventually find clarity don't find it by thinking harder. They find it by doing something. Anything, honestly. They try a thing, it works or it doesn't, and that result tells them more about themselves than 10 years of thinking ever could.

The real problem isn't that you don't know what you want. It's that you're trying to be certain before you begin. And life doesn't work that way. You don't get the answer before you attempt the question.

So you scroll. You compare. You watch someone your age announce a promotion and feel a very specific kind of dread that you can't even fully explain. You make a list of "possible careers" and stare at it like it owes you something. And the weeks pass.

You need stop trying to find the perfect path and start trying to find the next step. Just one. Something small enough that failure wouldn't ruin you. It could be a side project, a conversation with someone doing work you're curious about, a short course, a single freelance job. Not a leap. A step.

And talk to real people. Actual humans who will tell you the unglamorous truth about what their day actually looks like. Five honest conversations will do more for your clarity than five months of overthinking ever will.

Also, and I say this with love, stop treating "what if I choose wrong?" like it's a reason not to choose at all. Most wrong turns aren't dead ends. They're just detours. You pick up something useful on every road, even the ones you eventually leave.

Compared to my peers, I have never achieved anything in my life and career at record time.

Never.

I am the queen of trailing behind.

I would fail exams multiple times.
Fail aptitude tests
Fail at interviews
Fail at getting promoted
I stayed in roles and grades for longer than I should have.

For me, life seems to drag.

It is a pattern, and that is the story of my life.

I would try really hard, but I would fail.

I would debrief on why I couldn’t hit key milestones and see some valid reasons; sometimes, they wouldn’t make sense.

This bothered me every time I introspect, but then it stopped bothering me.

At least not so much anymore.

The reason is that I am pretty resilient.

My journey is complex, thorny, uncertain and quite complicated, but I seem to stay the course.

I realised that I do not get demotivated, no matter the number of ‘No’s I get.

It just fuels me instead.

I think that’s a superpower (what do you think?).

And I show up again and again and again because I want it badly.

So, whatever I have achieved so far in my life is not because I am good at it from the first time; it is mainly that I have become so resilient that I stay on the hill until I get it.

This is my story.

I have begged before I got
I have scraped before I ate
I have stayed knocking before the door opened for me.

There was hardly any magic or any leverage.

My leverage is my resilience, and I use it to my advantage.

That’s how I win.

Maybe that's how you win, too. I'm not sure, but you know better.

It was not suitable and ready for the future that has been prepared for you.

If you weren't told that NO, would you have doubled down?

Earlier this year, I got a gig that was way above my skillset. I panicked but took the job. I convinced the client that the job would be nothing short of perfect. Then, I began to pray daily for the Spirit of wisdom and grace for diligence in this work. I used Bezalel and Oholiab as references to God in my prayers and held on to Philippians 4:13 as my mantra.

Long story short, after the job was done, the client was so impressed, he called me aside, told me I was due for a bonus and then gave me a cash bonus of $300.

Three nights ago, as I was rounding off my prayers, the Lord brought the story of Gideon to my mind, it was unexpected as I hadn’t studied the book of Judges since last year. What followed was an unexpected exposé. As I pondered on the story of Gideon, I thought to myself, “You know what I find most fascinating about the story of Gideon? Its how the least person from the weakest clan in one of the smallest tribes would blow a trumpet and 32000 men would come running. What sort of magic was that?”

Here is what the Spirit laid in my heart as a response. “I know its a popular saying that God doesn’t only call the qualified but qualifies the Called. But that’s not all. He bestows upon the Called, the grace that qualifies him for the calling.”

God’s grace is often said to come in two dimensions; His saving grace and His enabling grace. His enabling grace empowers us to do His will. In Judges 6:34, Scriptures explains to us how Gideon was empowered with enabling grace to have such influence over the 32,000.

It says “But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet, and the Abiezrites gathered behind him.”

He had such influence because the Spirit of the Lord came upon Him. So, clearly, a man can obtain grace from God to outperform the best version of himself.

It is the will of God that we prosper and excel in the assignments we find in our hands but our struggles and failures can be largely attributed to our failure to obtain grace to do those things.

So, if you’re currently struggling in your career, studies, relationship, marriage, in parenthood and even in your spiritual life, learn to go back to Him and ask for a bestowal of grace. Grace to do and be all that He has called you to do and be.

The writer of Hebrews encourages us to come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. And aren’t we always in times of need?

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” - II Corinthians 12:9
