A Catholic priest to me with a sense of achievement: Jesus has answered the prayers of every Christian on FCRA. God is on our side.

I replied to him with a smile: Jesus always answers prayers if prayed with sincerity and honesty. Though, sometimes prayers might get delayed. FCRA is a bill. 2026 Amendments important for India’s national security. In His time as the hymn goes, new amendments will be passed. Let’s pray together that India is protected by Jesus, otherwise foreign powers using FCRA will leave no India for Christians, Hindus and Muslims to profess their faith.

US and India Christian lobbies appear to be preparing for celebratory prayer services because they believe that their prayers to God are going to be answered with a miracle that Modi government will take a step back on the new FCRA Amendment 2026 and even send it to the JPC.

The FCRA protests appear less about religious freedom and more about influence. There are legitimate questions over whether sections of the US Evangelical Christian lobby, backed by elements within the Catholic Church, are attempting to exert immense pressure on the BJP government. Foreign interests must not dictate India’s laws, policies or national priorities.

Why do Indian NGOs need foreign funds? That is the moot question. Over the last decade, more than ₹2 lakh crore in foreign contributions has entered India through NGOs and other organisations under the FCRA. The critical issue is not merely the amount received, but how this money is being used and why Indian NGOs require such substantial overseas funding. Foreign contributions can legitimately support healthcare, education, disaster relief and social development. But such large inflows demand greater transparency and accountability. Are domestic philanthropic resources insufficient? Are foreign donors funding specific priorities? Or do some organisations become dependent on overseas interests? These questions deserve honest public debate.
