COMMENCEMENT OF THE LENT SEASON: VICE-CHANCELLOR’S MESSAGE TO THE CHRISTIAN FAITHFUL
Dear Esteemed Colleagues and World-Class Students,
As we begin the sacred season of Lent, I, on behalf of the entire members of the University Management, extend heartfelt greetings to all our Christian faithful in the Lagos State University community.
Lent is a profound time of spiritual renewal; a season to pause, reflect deeply on our relationship with God, rediscover life’s true purpose, and realign our values with His will. It invites us to examine ourselves honestly and grow closer to Christ through prayer, fasting, and self-denial.
The Lent season also calls us to reflect on the authenticity of our service to one another, to our university, and to the fulfillment of its noble vision. As members of this academic family, we are challenged to embody not only intellectual excellence but also compassion, humility, and genuine care in our daily interactions.
I therefore urge every one of us, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ, to embrace this season with intentional acts of charity, fervent prayer, and sincere introspection. Let us seek ways to strengthen the bonds of unity, promote kindness, foster inclusivity, and uphold the dignity of every individual within our university.
May this Lenten journey bring us profound moments of transformation, renewed purpose, and deeper love for God and neighbour.
Wishing you a blessed, reflective, and spiritually enriching Lent.
Amen.
We are LASU.
We are the Greatest!

Today, I joined my fellow South West governors in Ibadan for the South West Governors’ Forum meeting, where we focused on the major issues affecting our region, including security, agriculture and economic development.
As a Forum, we agreed to establish a South West Security Fund under the DAWN Commission and to create a digital intelligence-sharing platform to strengthen coordination among our states. We also discussed the need for improved forest surveillance and called for Federal support to deploy Forest Guards, with states providing the required personnel.
We addressed concerns about unregulated interstate migration and committed to working with NIMC to enhance identification and border monitoring. We also highlighted the growing risks associated with illegal mining and agreed on the need for stricter licensing and stronger enforcement. The Forum reaffirmed its support for the establishment of State Police, as we believe this reform is overdue.
The strength of our region lies in our unity, and as Chairman of the Forum, I remain committed to working with my colleagues to build a safer and more prosperous South West for all.
