@TJG_24@CataPaul2 Yeah but that team ultimately disbanded right? The current Reds are the ones that came later. Which shouldn’t matter honestly. The Reds are rightfully known as the first.
@da_q74wwkgqjh@CataPaul2 There were other teams just those teams went bankrupt and folded. There were numerous teams and leagues from 1870-1900 only 8 survived into the National League. Then the American League came in also with 8 new teams.
@wellsp174407@CataPaul2 The team called the Reds from 1969 ultimately disbanded. Another team in 1892 in Cincinnati took the name Reds again but technically not the same team.
@chaneykyoto@kscc07@BBGreatMoments No i think it made a lot of sense then. There were 42 people on the ballot that eventually got in. It’s very reasonable that Joe didn’t get in right away.
@BBGreatMoments You know how many people on the 1953 ballot eventually made the hall? 42! Thats why it took a couple years. Not because hes not better than them. Just the votes get spread around over the ridiculous backlog of players
@kscc07@chaneykyoto@BBGreatMoments This is correct. The 60 year backlog of players was the problem. And many voters felt it was more important to keep getting caught up.
@chaneykyoto@BBGreatMoments It’s because “first ballot” wasnt a thing that mattered yet. It took well into the 60s to get caught up on the massive backlog of hall of fame worthy players. MLB had already existed for 60 years when the HOF started.
