From UMEME to UEDCL… this has to be the biggest down rebranding in the history of branding. The reason why Ugandans are going to keep calling it UMEME is that they had built a story behind it. UMEME was known for team work (excluding the vulgar).

They had built trust in communities they served and just their presence was felt in the black out seasons.

Thats the power of branding and not just running a business. Many businesses in Uganda are failing on branding and I think I know why. It’s true Branding takes time and it isn’t something that happens over night, it’s a process and most UG companies are not in for that. They are on the daily bread mindset. But branding is far more powerful than what we think. If handled properly, it could feed generations.
