Why such a difference? The first one is a non-Indigenous inmate, the second is a indigenous inmate. Indigenous People are always treated differently. Thats just how this system is
This justice and correctional system is more and more shocking. Imagine someone who gets charged with 2 counts of first degree murder and Break and enter gets their charges reduce to 2 counts of manslaughter of 18 years.
Another inmate gets an actual life sentence for a crime he did not commit , been in over a decade, conpletes his entire correctional plan and all he can do is get his points lowered by 2 points.

Really nightmarish Edmonton case: a woman's home was broken into. She was forced to give up her phone PW, then killed and stuffed in a car that was later lit on fire
Despite evidence at least one man was paid to do this, no one was found guilty of murder.

News: Edmonton's police chief is seeking to fire a detective who leaked case files to the media about Abdullah Shah and claimed members of the EPS brass had a "close knit" relationship with the notorious (now dead) landlord. https://t.co/XSxD3cqcbF
New from me: A convicted murderer who downloaded gambling apps, met up with women and stayed at a hotel while on work release has lost a bid to avoid transfer to a stricter prison. https://t.co/FhUHejovyk

Correctional system on trial: 2018 B.C. decision in BCCLA JHSC challenge noted even a few days in isolation can cause “mental torpor” or psychotic states + held indefinite solitary confinement violated prisoners’ Charter rights. Bill C-83 did not fix it. https://t.co/BoULCsoS30
Correctional Investigator finds that the federal prison service is ill-equipped for long-term mental health care. See annual report. Health care should be delivered by health care providers not jailors.
