"There Will Come Soft Rains" is a 1984 Soviet animated short film from Uzbekfilm, directed by Nazim Tulyakhodzhaev. It’s based on Ray Bradbury’s 1950 story from The Martian Chronicles. The film is set in a world after a nuclear disaster, where an automated house keeps running its daily chores—like cooking and cleaning—even though its human owners are gone, wiped out by the catastrophe. It’s a creepy yet powerful look at how technology keeps going without us, and a warning about the dangers of progress and war. Over time, it’s earned a loyal fanbase.
