Favorite airport joke: they confiscate your mouthwash on the theory it might be an explosive then casually toss it in the garbage. You say: “Easy there!!!”Never gets old. #flysafe
Wasn't expecting to break into tears hearing about two nursing home residents, having been stuck in their individual rooms for the past year, finally sharing a celebratory socially distant meal in the dining room, reaching across the table to grasp each others hands🤝

Dr. Vivek Murthy, the co-chair of President Biden’s coronavirus task force and nominee for surgeon general, talks to @ezraklein about the administration’s plan to beat Covid-19. Listen to the first episode of The Ezra Klein Show.

First episode of my new podcast is up! It's with @Vivek_Murthy, co-chair of Biden’s coronavirus task force, and you can listen to in full here. But I want to pull out some of what he told me in this thread. https://t.co/gtO20Wb7Yy
This is an interesting illustration of how research isn't linear. The research started to be about bass sound in @KEFAudio loudspeakers and ends up finding an even better application in air springs for cars.
Given its infection levels compared to a number of other London boroughs included, it’s not at all clear why Greenwich isn’t in the list of areas designated for delayed school openings. Genuinely baffling decision even for the DfE under Williamson. The criteria must be published.
Ironic and utterly damning that the hospital being forced to turn away patients due to over-stretched resources is in Greenwich - the very same local authority that Gavin Williamson was threatening to sue for closing schools a few days early.
So Gavin Williamson has told the large majority of London boroughs to keep their primaries closed, apart from... Greenwich, which it threatened to take to court two weeks ago for closing its schools.
This is the most personal thing I’ve ever written. A lot of you won’t share my pessimism. That’s fine. I, too, swing between blinding hope and crushing despair. But how about a “behind-the-scenes”? A short thread to set the context for this long piece? https://t.co/sVtWCYkPC8
I will end here. Some of you are thanking me for giving voice to your feelings. A childhood friend wrote from the U.S., saying he hopes me to be proved wrong. I hope so, too. For I’m vested in India’s success — not as a nationalist, but as a patriot. https://t.co/sVtWCYkPC8
So pleased that Ezra Klein has reposted this podcast discussion for Thanksgiving - it was arguably the best interview I've ever done and covered an amazing range of ideas. And this is certainly a good day to be grateful for love.

Ok here we go.
Look at the electoral maps by county for the last few decades of US presidential elections. You’ll notice that the South goes almost uniformly Republican red every time.
Duh.
But if you look closer, there’s something else there ...
What a terrible election. As far as I can tell from the vote analysts, Biden is highly likely to pull this out — the outstanding votes in WI/MI/PA and, for different reasons, GA are likely to be very Democratic, he's probably won AZ and NV. But then what? 1/
"The most remarkable formula in mathematics" according to Richard Feynman.
Euler's identity displays a profound connection between fundamental numbers π, e (the base of natural logarithms), and i (the imaginary unit).
Can you hear silence? Anechoic chambers are places that absorb as much sound as possible. Acoustic engineers study and experiment in silence and sound, whether they are designing concert halls, reducing aircraft noise, or using ultrasound to fight antimicrobial resistance.
