Ghana sits at the heart of West Africa’s gold landscape.
In 2025, Ghana produced approximately 6.0 million ounces of gold, more than any other country in Africa. Its long history of gold production and modern mining industry are rooted in the Birimian geology shared across West Africa.
For Galiano Gold, this story is centred on the Asanko Gold Mine, a multi-deposit operation on Ghana’s Asankrangwa Gold Belt. Asanko combines established production with continued exploration in one of the region’s most important gold settings.

Good news from the Theresienwiese: an ounce of gold goes further again this year! 🍺
240 Maß per ounce, a new all-time high, against a 1950 to 2026 average of 93.
The old record was 227 Maß in 1980. A Maß cost EUR 2.51 then, gold EUR 569. Today: up to EUR 15.90 and EUR 3,827.
During 2025, the number of women in Asanko Gold Ghana’s workforce increased by 57.5%, from 332 to 523.
At year-end, women represented 14.9% of our workforce, contributing across geology, engineering, processing, finance and support functions.

Ancient geology shapes Ghana’s gold landscape.
Between the Ashanti and Sefwi-Bibiani greenstone belts lies the Asankrangwa shear corridor, home to Galiano Gold’s Asanko Gold Mine.
More than two billion years later, it still guides exploration.

📍 Mapped: Ghana's Three Major Gold Belts
Almost all of Ghana's gold sits in three narrow belts of ancient rock, traced by deep faults that run southwest to northeast. Our new map shows where the three belts run and the mines strung along each of them.
The full story digs into the geology behind the map: why the gold follows the faults, what makes the middle belt different from the other two, and why fresh capital keeps flowing into these belts today.

GOLD’S SHARE OF GLOBAL RESERVES HAS CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE PAST DECADE.
For much of the period from 2000 to 2020, gold represented roughly 9% to 15% of global reserves, reaching a low of approximately 9% in late 2015.
By the end of 2025, that share had risen to 26.6%, nearly three times its 2015 level, with much of the increase occurring after 2023.
What changed? Central banks have remained net buyers of gold, adding to their holdings, while higher gold prices have increased the market value of gold already held in reserves. Together, these trends have increased gold’s weight within the global reserve mix.
Against this broader gold backdrop, Galiano remains focused on execution at the Asanko Gold Mine: delivering our 2026 plan, advancing Nkran Cut 3 and progressing exploration at Esaase and Abore to support the mine’s next phase of growth.

A CLEAR PATH TO HIGHER PRODUCTION AND STRONGER CASH FLOW
Growth at the Asanko Gold Mine is being advanced across multiple horizons.
Today, the AGM is focused on delivering its 2026 plan. The mine produced 69.1 koz in the first half and remains on track to achieve full-year production guidance of 140 to 160 koz.
Next, higher-grade ore from Abore is expected to support increasing production. At Nkran, Cut 3 pre-stripping is advancing access to another source of higher-grade ore, with 6.1 million tonnes of waste mined during the second quarter.
Looking further ahead, exploration at Esaase and Abore is advancing opportunities to grow Mineral Reserves and Mineral Resources, while permitting for an underground exploration adit at Abore is underway.
From operational delivery today to multiple organic growth opportunities ahead, the path to the AGM’s next phase is taking shape.

Energy transition minerals: top 3 countries in mining & refining 📊
For most of these minerals, three countries account for the majority of supply, and the share is higher at the refining stage:
🔋 Graphite 99%
⚡ Lithium 95%
🧲 Rare earths 94%
A new mine doesn't change much on its own, since the ore still has to be refined in the same few places.

GHANA’S GOLDEN LEGACY
Ghana’s connection to gold runs deep.
The ancient Ghana Empire that inspired the country’s name was located far to the northwest of modern Ghana, mainly in present-day Mali and Mauritania. The empire grew wealthy through its role in the trans-Saharan gold trade.
When the Gold Coast gained independence in 1957, the new nation adopted the name Ghana as a connection to West Africa’s history and the legacy of the ancient empire.
More than a thousand years later, gold remains central to Ghana’s story. Through the Asanko Gold Mine, Galiano Gold is proud to be part of that continuing story.

Africa’s gold map has shifted over the past fifteen years.
For much of the past century, South Africa was the continent’s largest gold producer. Ghana first overtook it around 2018. In 2025, Ghana produced approximately 187 tonnes of gold, more than any other African country, followed by South Africa, Burkina Faso and Mali.
Galiano Gold operates the Asanko Gold Mine in Ghana. Since operations began in 2016, the mine has produced approximately 1.9 million ounces of gold, contributing to Ghana’s position as Africa’s largest gold producer.

Indium Use Cases
From the screen you're reading this on to the optical chips inside AI data centers, indium shows up in more places than most people realize. It coats displays, joins electronics as solder, enables solar cells, and sits inside the semiconductors behind 5G and AI hardware.
One shift stands out: a metal long defined by flat-panel displays is now being pulled toward high-speed optoelectronics. We break down what's driving that in the full article.
